How to improve air filters that appear to be made out of used clothes dryer sheets?

I noticed that the Denso filter above had "PET" printed on it, which stands for polyethylene terephthalate. I tried researching this but cannot find any information on how this material compares to cellulose. I assume the polyethylene filter is more durable and has a higher efficiency, similar to polypropylene HEPA filters?
I'm interested in learning more if anyone has any insight.
Water and soda bottles are PETE. But processed like a non-woven fiber, a knit.
I think Donaldson does the same with their PowerCore filters.
A little more than a year and a half on this Hyundai sonata air filter with k&n oil.
The air filter box is slightly cracked and the factory cold air snorkel was blown away from the deer encounter.
Go fast ones are probably worse in every way I can think of and cost $300 to $400.
Used OEM ones are less than $140 for the box and snorkel shipped. Hopefully a junk yard one will work and I won't need to go out of my way to ebay a used one that came from a hybrid.
