WEnt walked out the Internet Cafe and saw a Man here in Virginia Beach with a Chevy Truck with alot of Amsoil stickers. Since I am going to get my Clutch changed soon, I thought I would buy 3 quarts of Amsoil Severe Use 75w90 Gear Oil. later the next day I was thinking of what temporary jobs i should get while doing Naval reserves... i was thinking amsoil Dealership. I"m just thinking about it still. the guy was helpful and gave me tons of information on the products and information on becoming a dealership... but who would buy from a 22 year old asian who drives a Hyundai Tiburon? I would think Americans would trust mid aged or older aged Caucasians instead.

Off topic question... is it really necessary to do the Amsoil oil flush before using there synthetics? Cuz i did 2 Auto-Rx flush and used COnventional Shell oil after the flush and rinse was done. I don't feel comfortable doing another flush to my engine.

thanks,
john

The best salesmen that I have ever met, known and worked with became very successful because they knew everything about the product they were selling. The more knowledge you have about Amsoil oil & lubes, the better off you will be.

Never mind, dont worry, about what or who you are: rather, become very knowledgeable and PASSIONATE about your chosen field and product and you will do fine...I am a part time Amsoil dealer and really believe in the product as well as use it; I may not be breaking any sales records but enjoy this as opportunity presents itself.

As far as using Amsoil's pre oil change flush, save your money. AutoRX is a much better product and gentler doing a far better deep cleaning on your engine transmission and differentials than practically any else out there. Go and change to synthetic if and when you are fully done with your ARX rinse cycles.

Your best market is an undiscovered one. Don't get down on yourself because you're "different" than the pack, rather exploit that to your advantage. Find some other 20-somethings that are souping up their honda civics or whatever and you might crack open a new circle of customers.

I think the guy who hooks you up as a dealer gets a cut of every sale you make, so of course he's going to try to get you to sign up through him.... free $$$, no work on his part.

Also thank you for your service in the Navy, your customers should never doubt your honesty as an American.

Well, thanks for all of your guys reply. I"m going to take a shot of it.. becoming a part time amsoil dealership.. i'm going to use Amsoil products myself.

to answer LT4's question,, I am a Enginemen at NAB Norfolk, VA.

Who would buy from a 22 year old asian? I would. Who cares what your heritage is? If you're good and passionate about whatever you do, you'll be successful.

And also-thank you for your service in the Navy. I appreciate what you do.

I don't know if you location will change (eg where you are posted now vs where you want to be after service) but it is a shame if you are in an area in which this would be a problem. I can't imagine how someone could function here in Toronto if you didn't want to deal with 22 year old Asians.

I guess there really are two aspects of this, the "22 year old" and the "asian". I can see how people might react positively to an older guy and the perception that his age confers experience and knowledge. But as others have noted, the answer to this is to develop and display thorough knowledge of your products and customers' needs. And age is not always an advantage if you allow yourself to get out of touch.

If someone is just a racist, there may not be much you can do to change that. But you can turn things on their ear. Why not pursue an asian market?

The direction I am leaning here is: What about targeting your Amsoil business at the Tuner market. Being 22 and Asian is probably a huge asset in selling to the sport compact customizer crowd. And they love spending money on their cars. And they may not have heard of Amsoil...

Hey if this works out maybe I can get a cut

John,

The other fellows are correct and have some good ideas. I can tell you it's not easy work and yes you need to have thick skin. Sales guys can't let rejection slow them down.

It's cool if you sign up under a BiTOG site sponsor because a small portion of your margin gets funneled back to support this site.

Thanks!

Paul

My thoughts are, it depends on your location and how much it may have already been exploited by another Amsoil dealer. Someone else might have the lion's share of the business, especially from commercial volume customers locked in. I'd probably investigate the market area to see if you'd be faced with major competition.

FYI, I can tell you this is that VA Beach must have one of the highest concentrations of Amsoil Dealers anywhere. There's Ray Pezko, Bill Stancil, The Reed's are close by.

Good luck it will be challenging for you but you should also have fun. I'm sure with the large military population, you would have access to customers the average dealer doesn't.
