Adding Baking Soda to Coffee

Wife and will only buy Market Basket light cream for our coffee; we were quite miffed when it was out of stock, so much so that we keep like 3 in the fridge at all times.

But don't ask us to drink the same coffee... to the point we have his and hers coffee makers.

I'll occasionally drink my coffee black but only if it's cooled down and is cold. Get heartburn too easily. Pinch of sugar (unless if it's lousy coffee) and cream.

We used eggshells to accomplish the same thing on the farm. We put them in the new coffee before brewing. Ed
My Indian university roommate used to do that. He was a strict vegetarian so he always scrounged my eggshells at breakfast. I didn't give much thought to this particular behavior since the guy was carrying a kirpan everywhere. O Ramndeep where art thou?

I personally can't guess how many cups I drink everyday. I know it is at least 6 because I have 4 in the morning and 2 before bed. Whatever I have at lunch adds on to that. I worked in hospitals and there was always a coffee pot going somewhere in the X-Ray department. I drove to the site and had to stay alert. Drove my company van about 33k per year. I never would have made it without coffee. I'm 75 now and just had my checkup at the doctor and I am in good health.

My sister sent this video today. It suggests adding baking soda to coffee to neutralize the acids in coffee and make for a smoother drink and less stomach upset.

If you have issues with stomach acidity it is due to your stomach acid not being strong enough and any akaline substance such as baking soda will only make your stomach acid weaker.

Add one ounce of organic apple cider vinegar to a drink of your choosing to strengthen your stomach's acidity and that should contribute to any related issues to going away.

Hahahah, I get your point :)

Of course, there are innumerable foods that require things like "cooking" to make them edible and nutritious. There is absolutely nothing unusual about having to sweeten, dilute, cook, mix, grind, powder, bake or process. Our new form of protein, ground up insects, is going to be unpalatable without major processing :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

On a more serious note, due to my autoimmune disease issues, Coffee makes me exhausted for the entire day. Regardless of how it's made. I wonder if baking soda would help that. I'll have to try it.
no, thats from the diuretic & sim properties - races the heart, increases BP, & so on, not the acid end of things there.

so adding some acid to acid should make the acid in coffee less upsetting? I dont get it...

he wuz a Sikh then not necessarily Indian. (it is a symbol = protect the weak and B one of social justice delivery).

gimmie anything coffee - ice cream, candy, drink, etc. Mocha might B even better ! (2 caffeines).
Just got offa harvard/brigham'n Women's study on Caffeine (COSMOS) showing benefit. BUT
the acid may not suit some. Not even a slight awareness of it, myself.

I need to try that baking soda trick one day cause I cant drink too much coffee due to acid reflux at times. But I do like it. So once in a while (like today) wife will surprise me with a trip to this really old coffee / donut stand. They make a mix of half cream with half milk and steam it slow in this large old time coffee / cream / steamer machine from the late 1880s. When the customer is ready they place these heavy duty ceramic mugs under neath the mixing spout and good old steamin hot coffee / milk in just the right mix comes out. Try as we might at home ... even with their own brand coffee and chickory and our own steamin milk/cream we can not even come close to the same awesome cup of creole / cajun java!,,, That stuff they make is awesome with cornbread.
So it is definitely a real treat when we go out for it. They even serve these amazing french hand made fried dough squares with powdered sugar.
The place was jammin full of families today about 0930am.

The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Cafe is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It closes only on Christmas Day and on the day an occasional Hurricane passes too close to New Orleans.

The Original Cafe Du Monde is a traditional coffee shop. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French -style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. In 1988 Iced Coffee was introduced to the cafe. Soft drinks also made their debut that year. I am 1/2 Cajun French and 1/2 Sicillan so I like it all....!!!!!

I do not live there now but as a kid we lived there in NOLA. Some of the first jobs I had was delivery driving as a teen all over the city. Have not been there in ages. They have in the last 20 years expanded and built a couple of those cafes outside the city.
