Added Lubegard Bio-tech; testing MPG

All done!

Changed the oil yesterday with 4,950 miles on the mix.

Final MPG was 38.8 for this fill, which is a 4.4% mpg increase over the previous fill. I'm happy with this. I know my driving habits don't exactly provide consistent data, but the mpg averages are usually pretty consistent.

One other observation; the oil was not as dark as usual after 5,000 miles. Usually a dark brown on the dipstick by 5K, this time it was a deep amber color by 5K. I'm not sure if the Biotech is keeping oxidation down as it claims? Or, it could be the synthetic and 4,000 total miles of MMO I used cleaned up the motor nicely? Anyways, just an observation.

Both products are good, MoS2 is powdered UF moly which passes through an oil filter and is in a mineral oil base. Biotech Engine Protectant contains Liquid Wax Esters, and soluble moly. It is polar in nature and clings to engine parts. Soluble moly is more expensive than the powdered MoS2. HTH

I think the Lubro-Moly is the better bang for the buck, but then again I have not used the Bio-Tech product.

Wow those corollas pull some huge MPG's. I don't think I even got that good of mileage when I rented a yaris for a month in florida.

I agree. Since Lubro-Moly MOS2 costs only $4.xx a bottle at Napa, you can try it one or two OCI's without much cost. If it works as you expect then continue using it every OCI. If not, then you're out a few bucks.

Lubegard Bio-Tech costs more than MOS2, the lowest cost per ounce is buy 32-ounce bottle direct from Lubegard for about $24 shipping included. Since the cost is high therefore many are reluctant to try it.

PS. Napa and Carquest has Lubegard too, but the price is about $15 for 15-oz bottle.

Most guys seem to be using an oz of Mos2 per quart after an initial OCI of a full bottle.

How much of the Bio-Tech do you use? A full 15oz or do you adjust it like the Mos2? How much moly is in a 15oz bottle of Bio-Tech?

Lubegard recommends 3 oz/quart substitution

3oz/qt is exactly what I used.

As far as Moly goes, I think a VOA is the only way to find out.

I spaced it when I did the oil change, forgot to save it!

I didn't add any Biotech in this oil change, just Pennzoil conventional. I'm going to add Biotech on the next OCI, I can do it then. But seriously, a VOA would be awesome. Maybe I'll do it if I can get a free UOA kit from my Schaeffer's guy.
