Had my mechanic adjust the valves on my Accord today. Here are a couple of pictures. Looks not too shabby for 140K miles.

Obviously no cleaning was needed at all.

I always use good oil, but change brands almost every oil change, just for the fun of it.

in 140K miles, I have done nothing to this engine other than adjust valves twice (was not satisfied with the first valve adjustment), 1 set of spark plugs, and regular oil and filters. Everything else is original. It runs like new. Best vehicle I have ever owned - by a huge margin - and I have had many.

Initial 110K miles my mechanic did it, 4 K Oci, dino - mostly Shell. Mostly Fram orange can filter.

last 30K miles, did my own oil changes, 6 K Oci, synthetic - M1, SynPower, Platinum, Ultra. Always with PureOne filter

Did one run with 20% mmo in the oil.
Use mmo in gas regularly for a couple of years.

Nice! That's a great looking top end on that motor...you couldn't ask for a more clean engine...

Well done...you're going to be able to drive that car for a long, long time to come...and at roughly 20K a year, you drive quite a bit...

Cheers!

Great engine, great car. I have 140k on an 05 as well. 10-12k mile drains using mostly M1.

Time to open her up so we can compare and see if there is any difference between 4-5K changes and 10-12K changes ;-)

My car has a 5 speed manual - imo, Honda makes some of the best manual transmissions around - smooth like butter and clutch is like new also.

Got RedLine MTL in there now, but will be changing back to Honda MTF within the next few days.

That sure would be very interesting to see. I say go for it!!

If you did not do your valves yet, they are definitely due. Honda prescribes it a 110K miles.

no timing belt to worry about in this engine.

Sorry, those pics are pretty small on my phone. I just zoomed in and saw that chain. I've owned about 10 hondas but they were all pre-chain. That's what assuming does for you.

WOW,that looks GREAT!! Conventional oil huh?

But why do you say "regular oil and filters" and in your sig.you have Ultra?

Pristine. Beautiful. I have an '04 with the I4 engine, 5-manual as well, and it is a great combo, imo. Needless to say I was excited to view your pictures. Honda did an outstanding job with the 7th generation accord.

It is nice to see pictures of the valvetrain. I can see a bit of mine through the oil fill hole using a flexible led flashlight and it looks similar.

What is your ambient temperature operating range in Vancouver? I grew up in Upstate New York, near Watertown, so I know how cold it can get up there. Do you have a block heater, garage, or does the car sit outside?

Did your mechanic check the timing chain tensioner? If so, what is the verdict?

I have had the new formula honda mtf in the case for 10,000+ miles and the transmission shifts beautifully.

Lastly, do you ever get a "clacking" noise from the engine when cold starting?

Thanks again for posting and feel free to pm me if you want to talk about the k24a4. :-)
