The pennzoil doesn't have C5 but the HTHS should be the same. In the future you could use Edge Gold, it has MB229.71 and C5/C6
yes, one can only imagine how terrible an uncivil war would beWow, will it, and a civil no less too?
Perhaps 322 will return and give us an explanation.I'm still digesting the "accidentally used the wrong oil" part.
I read that it needs 0w20, so I bought 0w20. I then read that it needs to meet the C5 requirement. I had no awareness that the exact spec of the 0w20 mattered, only that it was 0w20. After reading some of the supra forums, people seemed pretty concerned that SN C5 had to be used.Perhaps 322 will return and give us an explanation.
Yeah, that is not how it works. BMW engines have cooling systems on par average 18-wheeler. Also, it has aux cooling pump that works after shut down, and that is common practice for a long time.A 0W-20 in a turbo ??
Don’t care what the manual says because that turbo will eat up 20 grade oils all day long. Can’t hold up to the heat. Minimum if I had a turbo would be a 5W-30 preferably a 10W-30 or 0w-30/40
Please make sure when you are shutting down motor, let it run for a couple of minutes to cool the turbo. Or in a few years you will be buying a new turbo.
When you say "grade" are you referring to "viscosity"? If so, then I agree. There are educated people on this site that will tell you that only viscosity counts. If that value is appropriate for this engine and it's use then nothing else matters. Others are more concerned about certifications. I am some where in between. The viscosity should give around 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM at your operating temperature. The viscosity should be as low as possible at room temperature (though it will still be way above that than at operating temperatures). The volatility should be relatively low, say less than 9 or 10 in DI engines. Average amounts of the other usual ingredients will do fine. Just about any name brand oil will suffice if it is within a grade or two of specified. I have used 5 grade oils when 30 grade was specified. I have used 20 grade oils when 60 grades are specified. This over 50 years of motoring with high performance engines. Over time it seems as oil = oil and it just does not matter that much what you do.
