Accidentally Used Non-Euro Spec Pennzoil for B58 Supra

Perhaps 322 will return and give us an explanation.
I read that it needs 0w20, so I bought 0w20. I then read that it needs to meet the C5 requirement. I had no awareness that the exact spec of the 0w20 mattered, only that it was 0w20. After reading some of the supra forums, people seemed pretty concerned that SN C5 had to be used.

It doesn't need a 20-grade of course, much less a specific winter rating. I'd worry a whole lot more about the ACEA sequence than a grade. And even less about an API license.

A 0W-20 in a turbo ?? 😂😂😂
Don’t care what the manual says because that turbo will eat up 20 grade oils all day long. Can’t hold up to the heat. Minimum if I had a turbo would be a 5W-30 preferably a 10W-30 or 0w-30/40
Please make sure when you are shutting down motor, let it run for a couple of minutes to cool the turbo. Or in a few years you will be buying a new turbo.

Yeah, that is not how it works. BMW engines have cooling systems on par average 18-wheeler. Also, it has aux cooling pump that works after shut down, and that is common practice for a long time.
Welcome to the end of 20th century.

C5 grade oil is low HTHS, 2.6-2.9 cP. A1/B1 which this pennzoil platinum is needs to be between 2.9-3.5 cP. I’m pretty sure they’re both mid saps so it’s not like you put a high saps oil into a car needing a low/mid saps.

C5 eeks out a little bit bitter fuel economy but I’d want as much HTHS as you can get for a performance engine, I think you put in a better oil than what you’ve been running.

I’d look for C3 (HTHS over 3.5) or a C2 (HTHS over 2.9) in the future.

Penzoil Platinum is excellent oil. It'll be fine until next scheduled oil change.

I suggest at next scheduled oil change, put in 0w30 or 5w30 in a Euro approved oil. It'll be better protected in hot weather.

There are educated people on this site that will tell you that only viscosity counts. If that value is appropriate for this engine and it's use then nothing else matters. Others are more concerned about certifications. I am some where in between. The viscosity should give around 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM at your operating temperature. The viscosity should be as low as possible at room temperature (though it will still be way above that than at operating temperatures). The volatility should be relatively low, say less than 9 or 10 in DI engines. Average amounts of the other usual ingredients will do fine. Just about any name brand oil will suffice if it is within a grade or two of specified. I have used 5 grade oils when 30 grade was specified. I have used 20 grade oils when 60 grades are specified. This over 50 years of motoring with high performance engines. Over time it seems as oil = oil and it just does not matter that much what you do.

When you say "grade" are you referring to "viscosity"? If so, then I agree.
