AAP's official release on the switch to Purolator

Another thread from last month mentioned the new Purolator CQ's, but I didn't want to revive an old thread, but here is their official press release declaring the switch.

The manufacture of the filters probably started in April and hit the stores in May,

CQ Blue prices should go down, since they are most likely to be P1 clones, and the actual name brand P1's are cheaper than current CQ Blue prices. For example, the PL14610 is $6.99, and the CQ 84356 is $8.09. They will most likely be inferior to the Fram-made CQ's, which were similar if not identical to the M1, and before that they were Wix.

I have skipped their oil change deals for this very reason. AAP management has really been drinking the Mann-Hummel cool aide.

Screwing customers to save pennies is RIGHT.

I will not consider them. Idiot bean counters need to get booted, have professional people behind the counter, and quality product.

I admit I am a NAPA fanboy, but they do have people behind the counter that works on classic cars, and they DO have stools to sit on... to jabber about whatever.

Autozone is not much better, yeah they have ASE prepaid certification, but the twenty AutoZone's I've been in, nobody is wearing the ASE tags....and speaks poor English.

I quit dealing with all the parts stores. I use WM for Mobil 1 purchases and Rock Auto for everything else.

I like FRAM Ultra and TG oil filters, along with Wix/NAPA Gold and Hastings/Baldwin. Speaking of Walmart, I was in Walmart today and was trying to buy a FRAM Ultra oil filter, and every one of them had been opened. I noticed that the two in front did not have Ultra filters in them. I looked no further ... I just shook my head and walked away in disgust.

I now only buy the Hastings Premium oil filters from Federated, not the Federated store brand filters. I did buy the Federated brand filter a couple of times, but that was when they were still made by Hastings.

Seems like auto parts stores are just going to the lowest cost denominator. There is no pride, fake brand names that are nothing more than trade marks, a cut throat business selling hype and junk.

Fram used to have a window in the front, so you can see the filter inside.

I use a Napa Gold 1392 oil filter on my 84 Honda Civic wagon because Mobil 1 does not make one for this application.

There are a lot of filters for my old Honda but I worry about the quality. Looking inside the boxes I've seen rust and discoloration and some have had a musty smell. The NAPA filters always look fresh and new.

Maybe they should cut a deal with whoever makes the Chinese DriveWorks for them, they're better than a Classic, just stick AAP on them. If you're going to sell garbage, might as well go all the way. Hope they got a nice payday from Mann for switching!

To those who like Hastings oil filters, I found Zoro Tools to have good prices. You just need to know your filter part number to do a search.

AAP won't be hurt by the BITOG boycott.

We shall see within the next 6-12 months how well the new line of Puros turn out when we start to see some cut open filters.
