Great story! The interior looked good for the high miles. Some cars just seem to make it a long time and others not so much.

300K more miles if taken care of like you did.
$500 for a RUST FREE Camry?? It could have 1,300,000 miles, it still would have gone for $2K here!

My mother bought one of those new, LE level. My sister-in-law has it now. Very few problems, so far. The throttle tends to stick closed, then suddenly open more than intended when you push the accelerator pedal harder, resulting in jerky launches.

That car owes you nothing. OP you didn't mention your maintenance routine that got you to 300k miles.
the maintenance was never a priority on the list for this car; of course it had changes of oil or few transmission flush from time to time at Toyota dealership but in past 7 years as my dad was using it, the maintenance was few and far in between; I think its timing belt was not replaced in past 7 years, but the car apparently refused to die; its just that these were basic and solid build vehicles at the time; also, my dad is not proponent of putting good money after bad money
Just goes to show you, a well designed vehicle is more important that ALL the oil changes and transmission flushes in the world.

I just looked and our local dealer has 2020 Camry LEs for $24,000. Not a lot of price increase over 20 years considering they now include adaptive cruise and more safety stuff.

One could take this car up north and drop the front subframe and struts, and slide in a 150k powertrain from a rusted out model, and keep driving.

Elderly lady had the same car nearing 200K. Good maintenance history.
Contacted her grandson (~500 miles away) to GIVE it to him as he was driving a rusted, rattly mess.
He never even responded....his own grandmother!
That's when I learned I had to detach a bit.

Any running car with get you $500. Why would you even think you should call the junkyard? And what's with blocking out the plates in photos? Do you hold your thumb over the plates when driving as well?

For someone just needing a car that is a good deal. No rust I can see in the pictures, most of the dings are PDR and a little paint. The engine, who cares its a 4 banger with lots of room to work on it, throw another one in when the times comes for under $500.
You could also see it as $1500 with a lower mile drive train and all done that will go another 10 years. A no rust straight shell (little dings don't count) and a good frame if applicable is all I require when I buy a car.

Wonder if the oil leak would have been fixed with a TB change--the oil pump likes to leak, and it's easily fixed during a TB job.
Waiting to see if mine will hit 300k also.
My co-worker has a 2001 and has put many thousands into it over the past couple years Keeping it running.

I've done almost all the work on mine, save welding a flexpipe--no welder, although now that I have garage maybe I'll "fix" that lack someday soon. Oh and windshield... but the rest, it's just (painful) labor on my part. At least as a '99 now I don't have to replace the cat, it's aged out of ODBII checks, so it might be worth keeping around for years to come.
I took a VW to over 300k and after a few years I was sweating every fall to see if the CEL would stay off long enough for inspection. I like clean air and would probably replace the cat on my Camry if it went, but by jove it's stressful, going from one car repair to the next.
