A new type of security blanket for young people?

Landscapers here all wear hoodies in blistering summer heat. I once asked my brother in Louisiana, who has experience with manual labor in crazy high humidity.

His response? I'll paraphrase:

"Clothes that are saturated with sweat behave very differently from one that are dry. If you just assume your shirt will be soaked, you dress differently. It's not the hoodie, it's the hoodie OVER the shirt underneath. The hoodie gives you sun protection and the bulky loose sweatshirt lets air circulate and evaporates sweat from the saturated shirt underneath."

Basically, a hoodie is not super insulating if there's breeze or a saturated wet shirt under it.
I have a white wicking Columbia long sleeve “hoodie” that I wear in the sun. It’s much cooler and keeps me from getting sun baked.

Lots of outdoor workers here wear long sleeves for same reason.

A traditional beanie on the other hand I don’t think would help?

I'll have to try that. I sweat a lot, so my T shirts get soaked. I'll try a long sleave that loose (no hoodie) first.

Don't laugh, but I bought a headband for the fourth of July. I knew I'd be running the grill for a few hours, and it was the best investment I made all year. No sweat in my eyes and none on the food!

I call it reaching the "'These kids today!' Generation." It has happened to every generation. When you were a kid, people 50 years older than you were saying exactly the same things about you.
Nope. They were absolutely perfect. They were never just some young dumb kid trying to figure out life. Had it all figured out from day one.

Never wore a hoodie at all, not my style or image.
Same. When I was in college, the only winter clothing (with the college logo) sold in the bookshop was a hoodie. I bought one and had someone handy with sewing cut off most of the hoodie part and turn it into a proper collar.

Note to self: avoid wearing and/or remove hoodie before engaging in physical altercations (especially with martial arts aficionados).

Got it.

My dilemma is the Una-bomber stigma associated with hoodies. People give me the stink eye every time I don my hoodie/sunglass combo.

EDIT: I'm on board with the concept of wearing loose fitting long sleeve shirts designed for wicking perspiration and UV protection. The thin, loose, light colored hoodie linked somewhere above probably works also. It seems the intent of the OP was to point out the fashion statement associated with hoodies.

All this talk of getting attacked and beat up while wearing a hoodie’s got me freaked out. I guess I’m just gonna strip down and get lathered up with baby oil when I go out. Let’s see an attacker take control of that! 🤔
