And, for all you know, our missives above are just our own self-induced smugness of the moment (though it really does seem to make sense). If you hang around here long enough, and are open to new thinking, the total destruction of our momentary smugness is a fairly regular thing. And it's probably a good thing.

Since all these long drawn out discussions (regardless of massive test data or not) always seem to boil down to "it really doesn't matter what oil or oil filter you use as long as you change the oil and filter often", then I guess the "ultimate in awesomeness" choice of oil and filter is the one that YOU think is the best setup for YOU.
Based on this conclusion, it's time to remove the oil and oil filter forums from BITOG.

Truely nothing much to pick at your well-being over there. ( : < ) I think you could probably run a 2 year interval (even at 10K miles) but given you have the 'charger, and maybe when you play with that car you really PLAY, that's probably something to be verified with a used oil analysis first (if you haven't already). The filter... I'd run an Ultra, or some other premium filter but the MC is fine the way you are doing things now. If you extended the miles, a Full Synthetic filter would be safer (not that a cellulose filter is unsafe). In a high performance realm, I think it's more important to try and avoid a bypass situation and a synthetic, high capacity filter helps in that regard. Isn't that why the dedicated HP filters used to have such low efficiency so they could deliver high flow? A syn filter can deliver both, along with higher capacity.

+1 Zee! Lately especially reading the oil filter board, I come to the same conclusion. Might as well put a notice at the top of the OF board that says, 'choice of oil filter unimportant/immaterial' and shut down it down. Obviously, I don't agree with that conclusion, but after reading many repetitive reply posts on multiple threads it does seems to have come that here (OF board) recently.
But here's one for ya, I don't believe that UOA is the ultimate proof of oil filter efficacy.
Just as some poo poo the GM study of oil filter efficacy, I want to see long term studies (more than one) proving that UOA is a valid test of oil filter efficacy. Since reading Bitog over time I now believe UOA is best used in some trending data of oil used, and observing any incursion of unwanted fluids/materials like antifreeze into the oil/combustion chamber. To me the only truly valid method to measure engine wear is engine tear down after long term use.
So, I'll continue to use what I consider to be a quality filter based on my oci, with value being a consideration in that decision. Doesn't necessarily have to be the most expensive or finest filtration filter, but I won't just indescriminately pick just any oil filter either with no consideration to it's construction and efficiency specs.

The last OC on that car was in July of 2011, but it's only been driven about 1100 miles since then, and is under cover for the winter. I intend to change the oil again in the spring when I recommission it.

Stick with the 400S and call it a day. JMHO.
i'd stick with the Motorcraft myself.
