Have you absolutely, positively screwed the FL1A on the oil pump of your pickup? The reason I ask is that a lot of the 3.8/4.2 V6 Ford engines that are speced for the FL400S filter will not allow the FL1A to screw on to the threads because of the increased filter diameter. My daughter's V6 Mustang is one of them. Now I possibly could get the 1A on there if I took a few casting threads off of the oil pump with a grinder, but I don't consider it to be worth it. (FWIW, the oil pump on the Ford 3.8/4.2 V6 is external from the block, and the oil filter screws right on the oil pump. Pictures of it can be viewed on RockAuto)
If the FL1A-sized filter does screw on and works, great. But I don't consider the extra $5 to be worth it. JMO.
I had the same problem. Then I thought I would use a different MC filter or maybe one of the fram options, but when I realized that the other filters in comparison with the Mopar were bigger yet lighter in weight, couldnt help but think they were cheaper in quality. I went back to the Mopar, which never gave me problems in the first place but I tend to try and fix things that aint broke.
