Here are a few shots of a Victor mousetrap I had good results with. It has a simple design change different from some previous models. Simply, the bait holder is in the top half of of the trap rather than on the trigger. The mouse has to stand on the trigger to reach up to the bait. It's very effective. Enjoy.

Was expecting a take off on the quote from Emerson.
I've used their rat traps which are similar and they work well. We have bad rats in the summer that like to eat our garden because we have a catch basin at the rear of the property.
We do raised gardening now in planter boxes on wire legs so the buggers can't get into our stuff any longer.

I'm in the process of making a Trap with 5 gallon Pail & Roller.
Here's mine. I used a welding rod for the roller axle, the peanut jar rolls like it has ball bearings. It works great, and took all of about 5 minutes to build. The ramp is about 2" down from the rim of the bucket, the roller about 2" below that. I loaded it up with peanut butter. The mouse has to lean and reach, or jump. Either way he/she is caught. Fill with a few inches of water/AF mix to kill, leave it empty to relocate them.

My added suggestion is to always wear gloves to touch and bait the traps. The traps might have disease germs and/or you do not want to have any human scent on trap or bait.
More so with rats than mice. But still a good idea.
