Hi guys,
After doing some searches, have not been able to find any recommendations as to over-sized filter applications. Forget Purolator and Mobil filters as they are not available (as far as I can tell) in this country. Am using Napa Gold oversize in my Jetta and that seems great thus far.
Any suggestions or experiences are greatly appreciated.

John.

Truck's a four-wheel drive model. Would that filter be exposed in any undesireable fashion? Increased capacity is great but I don't want the thing to get 'whacked' by something or interfere with the suspension, etc. Thanks.

John.

Just put an FL1A size on there 1515 NAPA 51515 Wix and see how much more you have until it extends below the pan. They aren't nearly as cheap as the WallyWorld ST8A so you're probably better off with that. The 1773 is about $10.

Go with BALDWIN B2-HPG. I use it on my 2001 V8-318, and have used it in four other vehicles. Best for price and service.

Also (but more expensive)

Nothing out there is "better".

Well, I bought a 1773 and gave that a 'go'. Or should I say, 'no-go'? That thing is WAYYYY too long. My 318 is pretty-much shoe-horned into the engine bay of the Dakota AND it's a 4 x 4. The oil filter mount is just under the passenger side exhaust manifold. And just below that is the frame rail... Well, I took it back and got a 1515. Still no dice. One of the problems is that the oil filter mount is angled out from the block at 90 degrees. That makes for a 45 degree mounting angle in a VERY confined space. I slid the 1515 along under the manifold (couldn't fit in through the fender 'skirt' and rotate down 90 degrees in the area available). Then I tried to to rotate the filter semi-upright so that it could catch the mounting threads. Wouldn't line up - too long. Might have been butting up against a motor-mount or something.

Went back to Napa with my scratched up filter and a long face. She laughed at me and gave me the stock filter application size for it (forget the number right now) with no questions asked! Came back and put that one on without too much trouble. P$sses me off though that I can't get a big filter in there like I did with my 1.8T the other day.

Anyway I then poured in a four litre jug of XD-3 0w-40 and topped it off with GC. Should be ready for the -35 degree temperatures that are common around here in Jan - Feb!

Didn't realize that it was a DAKOTA instaed of a RAM.

MOPAR makes filter adaptors, and you might look into remote set-ups.

Otherwise, just use the best synthetic medium, extended/heavy-duty service rated filter. Do an analysis after 6k.
