Hi, i am switching to Schaffers oil, live in the Southwest where summer temps get to around 100 degrees on a reg basis, and was wanting to know which is better to use for the type of heat i drive in...2002 F250...7.3, no chips, 4" turbo back exhaust, 6637 air filter mod, . Just wondering if the 15-40 7000 semi synthectic, would hold viscosity better than the 5-40 9000 fully synthectic ???? Thanks for any help...trying to make this truck live a long time

Look through the used oil analysis. I think you will find either will do the job. I've used the 7000 series oil for 7 or 8 years in a tractor and diesel VW.

I would use the 9000 series 5W40. You don't need to worry about cold temps where you live but the synthetic should give a little better protection in the heat.

I personally use the 9000 but I have seen many 7000 runs that would rival a full PAO oil. They have a full dino moly oil that can outrun many synthetic oils.
