Yeah, it has numerous OEM approvals and proper CCS and MRV values available for it too

It has definitely passed all the API and ACEA testing protocols as well.

If the two oils going in have the same approvals the resulting mix will be approved as well.

Edge 0w-30 + FU filter is 29.99 at at AAP this month. We all like to try new oils, but at that price I'd stay the present course. If you already have a filter, then try the 0w40 M1 jug from Wally for kicks and grins. Both quality choices.

Where did you find that ?

Do you have a link to the standard that says that ?

What happens to M1 0W40s substantial list of approvals when mixed ?

That's not even remotely close to true.

Also, what 0w-20 and 0w-40 have the same approvals? You DO realize that many approvals are grade or HTHS range specific right? Well I guess you don't know that or you wouldn't be telling people that approvals "carry over" when you mix oils

Where do you people come up with this garbage?

There's nothing wrong with Castrol 0w-30 or 0w-40, or M1 0w-40, or the Pennzoil Euro 0w-30 already referenced, if you're stuck on using synthetic.

Those Honda engines from the '80s (I owned 4 of them)love to rev high all day long.
I think of them as overgrown motorcycle engines.
3-4000 rpm and they sing a happy song.
I drove a '75 Civic and later an '88 Accord LXi across the southern US on road trips in the summer.
I think I was turning the Civic at 5000rpm (4mt without a tach) for hours at a time with Castrol 20w50.

Hi elkid,

A 60/40 TGMO/M1 ratio shouldn't be too light for your '89 Integra with a HTHSV on par with AFE 0W-30 and M1 10W-30 if not slightly higher. Or you could go with the simplicity of a 50/50 blend and your HTHSV will only be slightly heavier than a typical 5W-30 and still be lighter on start-up than a 5W-20.

This blend is quite shear stable so I wouldn't be concerned with that.

Cheers

The OPs car has fairly high mileage but oil consumption is not excessive and I suspect his oil pressure is still more than adequate running a light 30 grade, hence no need or benefit in using a heavier oil like GC and not M1 0W-40 straight.

But if the OPs hot oil pressure was on the low side the new Pennzoil Euro LX 0W-30 with it's 200 VI would be an excellent choice especially for those with an adversion to blending their own high VI 0W-30 (not myself of course).

Despite all of the harsh criticism on this site for doing so, I obviously do NOT have an aversion to blending/mixing, but, I AM going to try this oil for my winter to late spring OCI.

It will probably be in the sump the last week of this month.

Give it a year or so and blending will be back in vogue around here and you will be OK.

Wouldn't call it "harsh criticism"...that applies to people making claims for blends that the standards and the manufacturers DON'T make themselves...

"Unlikely to have problems" is about the harshest I've seen for the practice.

The criticism is against people who claim
* will never have problems;
* are completely predictable;
* better;
* and things that the OEMs and API never claim, like meeting all the tests of the original individual finished oils.

All I'm really pointing out is that a vehicle of this vintage, with its fairly basic required specifications, has so many options that it's just about impossible to choose an oil that is grossly wrong. Even a basic, 5w-30 SN/GF-5 conventional would work fine.

HA! You could be correct on that one! (Hopefully in time for my summer OCI, which will be a mix, IF I am not impressed by this Euro LX stuff.) LOL
