5.1 Jugs?

It's been 3 years now since picking up jugs because I built up a stash of single qts. Now, I know some lubes are now sold as gallons, and then there's the 5.1 jugs. So, is the 5.1 reference refer to jugs contain 5qts in one jug or 5qts + 1qt in a jug(=6qts total, which would be perfect for me, and a senseable packaging move as oil sumps are getting larger).

5.1 qts is... 5 qts + 3 oz(163 oz)

Did you ever contemplate not putting all the 5 (or GASP! 5.1) quarts in to begin with?

Kind'a like trying to pour a 2 Liter bottle of soda into a 16 oz. glass...

Duh, of couse I don't put it in there, so I end up with a huge jug with a half quart of oil in it sitting/sloshing around just getting in the way. No thanks.

I guess I could wait a full 9 OCI's so I could Frankenstien combine them and do another oil change. No thanks again.

All three of my vehicles take different amounts.
5 qts for one, 5 1/2 qts for one and 6 1/2 qts for the other.
I don't really expect to be able to get the exact quantity for each of them in a jug.

Exactly, mine are 3.5, 4, 5.1 and 8. All over the road.

What's funny is, for a couple of years, the jugs on the shelves were being downsized to 1-gallon jugs. I went through a period where I had to buy both a jug and an extra quart because all of my cars took 4.whatever quarts of oil.

Yep....kinda like how you can go to Office Depot, find an HP Printer for $80, and then go to Walmart, and find it for $85, exactly same printer, just different "model number" - so Walmart will not "price match" it, since it's not the "exact same product"

And trust me, I've fought, apparantly, they have a huge directory at customer service they consult, if they get price match complaints

Almost like a jumbo-list of "circulars" and such....

I mentioned the strange Walmart sizes we get up here in another thread, too. Walmart normally stocks, say, Pennzoil Conventional in a 5L jug. When it's on special, it's the 4.73L jug for, say, $13.88. Canadian Tire may have a Pennzoil Conventional special at the same time, for around $15 or $16, but they use their 5L bottles. They do price match, too, but neither has to, since they're both using different products.

I have the same opinion about the 4.4L jugs of oil sold up here! I don't know why so many oils are packaged like that, since a lot of cars take either less than 4L of oil or closer to 5L. The 4.4L jug doesn't work for either of my cars, the Civic takes 4L of oil (and that's slightly overfilling it too) and I put 7 to 7.5L of oil in the Corvette.

In fact, out of the 17 cars I have owned, I don't think a single one of them would have benefitted from having a 4.4L jug of oil. All of them took a lot more or a lot less oil at oil change time. And having extra oil left in the jug is just annoying, since then you can't use that jug to put the used oil into.
