I still have the stock tires on it that suck going by tire rack reviews anyway i found the Discoverer Road + Trail AT at discount tire or the Michelin Defender LTX M/S at costco.

The 4runner is 100 percent used on blacktop with the 3 or 4 snows we get this time of year.

BTW does anyone know if costco sells tires that are not listed on there website like the coopers?

I have read about Cooper Tires at the Ford Escape forum and some members liked it. Get the ones with the raised white letters. It looks very sporty.

We have a 5th gen 4Runner. For 100% use on paved roads, I would just go with the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 sold at Discount Tire. I know at one time Costco had their exclusive version of the Michelin LTX M/S tire. So I assume the Michelin at Costco you're referring to is their exclusive version of the Defender LTX M/S2. If it is in fact the previous generation Defender LTX M/S, I would definitely go with the newer Defender LTX M/S2 version found at Discount Tire.

No A/T tire will be as nice on the highway as a good All-Season tire like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

I am a big Goodyear/Cooper fan. I always used to run wrangler duratracs on all of my trucks, including the 4Runner. I recently put Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT’s on my Ram and I really like them. They are quiet and handle well. They look aggressive but don’t make a ton of noise like the duratracs always did. It is too early to report on longevity though and they’re on a 3/4 ton diesel truck so there’s that…My wife also has cooper discoverer true north snow tires on her awd Camry. Satisfied Goodyear/Cooper customer here.

My Cooper Evolution’s did well - so replaced with Cooper SRX …

I like the coopers as they look more off road than the Defenders, yeah i know it's just looks. They are also cheaper.
:)

costco still sells the Michelin - Defender LTX M/S2....what is the difference? Does one work better in snow than the other?

I've always had god luck with Coopers. Not sure if anything has changed now that they are owned by Goodyear.

I had defenders on my beloved 15 Tacoma Prerunner. It did extremely well in the snow and ice storms we get here in north Texas.

I get it. Form used to be more important to me than function. I ran aggressive M/T's or A/T's for years on past 4wd vehicles.

Now I'm the opposite. Function over form. Our 5th gen is used primarily for 4wd trail exploring and driving in snow. The trails we typically drive are rocky, and hard on tires. So I'm running A/T tires that are load range E. We also didn't want some howling, overly aggressive tire.

We are running the Yokohama A/T G015 someone else suggested. It is a smooth running, easily balanced, A/T that is 3PMSF rated. It's civilized for an A/T, but not as civilized on pavement as the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2. The G015 has been superceeded by the Yokohama A/T4 G018. I have not tried that tire, but if I were looking for a civilized A/T, I'd try it based on our experience with the G015.

I've yet to have a positive experience with Cooper tires. Or Goodyears for that matter.

Running only on pavement, I'd choose the Michelins you're considering.

Cooper Tire used to be HQ'd in Findlay OH, a little north of where I grew up and one of their engineers was a part-time instructor of mine when I was in college. They always had a very good (great) reputation plus the benefit of being more budget-friendly than tires like Goodyear, Michelin, etc. Discount Tire rates tires as good, better, and best and the Cooper options for my wife's SUV are rated "better". I only buy their "better" or "best" options and wouldn't hesitate to buy Coopers. Apparently they still have their manufacturing plant in Findlay too.

I've ran multiple Coopers across many vehicles. SRX to multiple generations of P rated Discoverer and XLT's. Never had a problem with any of them.

Actually just put a set of Road + Trail on my Tundra. Love them so far. They are a road oriented AT but lets be honest, my Tundra isn't seeing much dirt these days. I like the semi aggressive look and the 3 peak rating for MN's snow.

I dont see much value in Coopers over any other brand...especially when compared to the Michelin. The LTX AT2 would be a good choice.

I had poor results with Coopers on my truck fleet. But that was quite a few years ago. Maybe they are better now. Put Michelin LTX on my chevy work truck and absolutely loved them.

I have the cooper Road and Trail AT on my Jeep Commander now. I have been pleased so far. They replaced Continental ATs that were excellent on-road all-terrains. The Coopers are quiet, have excellent wet traction and are good looking if you want a little more "off road" look than the Michelins
