4L60E valve body reconditioning.

Anybody really happy with a service that does a quality job with vac testing reaming/repair and updates. Found a guy and was wondering if $450 was a decent number.

That's about what a Sonnax reman costs.

I do my own for the units I build.

A Sonnax AFL Valve Kit (Reaming required), Sonnax Bore Plugs, And a TransGo TCC Regulator Valve will fix 90% of 4L60E valve bodies.
If they need more than that I throw them away.

Sonnax like any other large corporation uses cheap labor & the VB's are tested on a test stand in a pass/fail. Not vacuum tested like we do in the field.

HD is for the Overrun Clutch it stay on in D3-1st & D3-2nd to protect the forward sprag, If you're not abusing the unit.....Not a need.

My plan was to cheap out on solonoids and just replace the EPC, buddy wants ALL replaced and harness- considering the age alone I'm ok with this. Is Rostra decent not a fan of ACD these days, GM Genuine?

The Made in Mexico ACD solenoids are still OEM made by Borg Warner.

Rostra makes a decent harness....But not quite OEM quality.

Things get expensive fast for that harness if you try to move beyond Rostra.

They are not, That's the earlier design '93-'02, 2003 & up is different.

You can run a early style PC Solenoid on any 4L60E & is arguably a better Solenoid.

The core is out of a 1996 4x4 K1500.
I'm looking at GM 19138846 looks 99% good except for extra connector adjacent to TCC.

Reuse existng harness which is in fine shape- just seem convention to replace, I do have all new solonoids coming.

The weight of the vehicle along with Traction has a lot to do with it.

I have one of my 4L65's in a 2001 Tahoe, Stroked 408 LS that puts down 600 foot pounds.
It has a Sonnax Smart Input Drum & a 300M output shaft & is holding up well (Over 200 1/4 mile passes)

In a heavy vehicle like this.....It's near the limit of what a 4L60/65 will reliably handle.

Other than the above mentioned extreme example, where would you use (or not) the Sonnax reaction shaft. If I used all Sonnax parts this would be a $10k trans Heavy vehicle 4x4 383. I'm thinking yes I should invest.
