If you don't feel comfortable with 6k, do 5k or 6 months. Should be fine with your 70% highway mileage.

My dad used to work for Chrysler for 20 years and is a retired mechanic of 35+ years. You wanted to see the Jeep engines we saw with much longer OCI's and they still ran fine. We had one guy that drove mainly highway and used to change at 15K KM (9K miles) and the Jeep made it to well over 300K KM (180 K miles) without issues before he totaled it.

They are tough engines that are easy on oil... 6K will be fine. Not recommending you do the above, but shows you it is possible without drastic effects.

okay thanks guys...I got this thing last year with 65k on the ticker and had been doing 4k until this last run I am moving up to 5k...but another post got me thinking so I figured I'd ask...you have confirmed 5k should be fine.

5K will be fine... Sleep easy.

6qt sump, 70% highway miles. The Jeep is not easy on oil, nor is it hard. You can safely go 5-6k miles on a quality dino. If you are doing extreme/severe service then 4k is fine.

Severe service would be:

Towing
Off-roading
Frequent Engaging of 4x4(snow/winter)
Short Trips.

The 4.0L has a habit of turning even the most robust and stout oils dark after 1k miles(color is no indicator) so don't fret if you check your oil and its dark brown/black fairly quick. The 4.0L is the sherman tank of engine's. I miss the 94 Wrangler we had ;_;

Well this is on a newer distributorless 4.0L in a Grand. It is a 2wd work-shuttle. My 4x4 Grand that does the towing & winter driving gets once a year or 3k (whichever comes 1st), but it is a v8 though.

Longer runs, heating the oil up fully for 20 minutes or more=longer OCIs. The only way you'll know for sure is have your UOA done & watch for increasing wear metal levels (iron, etc.)-then you'll know how far to push it safely. Being out of engine/powertrain warranty is good too-don't have to worry about broke Chrysler contesting any problems!
