I almost forgot one more car for my dream garage,a 1969 Lincoln Mark III. With all that sporty muscle, you gotta have some luxury. Luxury=Lincoln hands down!

If you were a little closer, I'd pick you up & let you drive the beast. That Boss 429 in the Tasca stang is an huge part of muscle car history, too. Whatta monster.
ANyway, thanks for the compliment.

Very well said & this eve, on the way home from a big car show, a WRX turbo Subaru pulls up next to me @ the light. I let him go 1st & he sounds his blow off valve. I stomped it & shifted @ 6 grand in 1st & 2nd. The Hemi's roar echoed so loud under the overpass, I doubt if he could hear himself think. He quickly turned left @ the next light. Took me right back to my high school days in 70, racing everwhere & everyone. I still got the ear to ear smile on my face...

I checked out their website & Brad Penn Racing oil looks pretty impressive. 1500 ppm of zinc & lots of phosphorus. I'll try to find a local dealer. Thanks

That sound is awesome

There is a green 426 Challenger that was run two years ago at the track I frequent. Car sounded amazing!!! I imagine that the WRX driver felt quite humble for a moment or two there with that winding out as it roared by him.....

What do you consider a diesel oil? Many HDEO's which are spec'd for heavy diesel engines are ALSO spec'd for use in gasoline engines.

The oils that are being recommended (Delvac 1 5w40, RTS 5w40) are being recommended because they show extremely impressive wear results in modified engines.

Go check out Grampsinthesand's UOA results. Royal Purple "race" oil getting handed by a readily available HDEO (RTS). THIS is why these types of oils are recommended for high-horsepower engines. And why I have witnessed numerous times, them being recommended by engine builders.

AWESOME kill triggerfish!

. Everytime I hear one of those little blow off valves next to me I always make sure they see me point at them and laugh

. I wish I would`ve been with you! Poor fellow either went home in tears or is putting his car up for sale as we type, haha!

No sarcasm intended. Penn Grade 1, Red Line, Royal Purple, Mobil 1 15w-50 and many Amsoil formulas have superior amounts of cam protecting zinc and phosphorous.15w-40 is losing its zinc and phosphorous. Nothing wrong with diesel oil, just lots of better choices out there.

I feel like a kid in a candy store...too many good choices. I was on Brad Penn's site & they claim to have 1500 ppm of zinc & 1340-1400 ppm of phosphorus. Rotella seems to be high in the good stuff as does Delo. As far as additives go, is using Comp Cam's additive a good idea? I also bought a gallon of Justice Bros Hevy Duty Vehicle lube additive because the salesman raved about how it bonds to the metal, filling in the microscopic rough spots, etc. Is this stuff just 'snake oil'? I don't intend to use it, but it'd be nice to know its bogus. An article on this site didn't recommend additives since they change the original formula of the oil & can trap air?

Triggerfish,
We run Penn Grade 1 40wt. in our 500 hp. 440 Mopar and are simply thrilled with the results. The additive package is brutally strong and that pure Pennsylvania basestock clings to metal very well. We know people who run in in their drag cars, late models, sprint cars, etc. and it hasn't let any of them down yet.

Tried to find a local dealer, but their website doesn't list their distributors. Found it on ebay, but they want $38 in shipping.

Just run some RTS 5w40 or Delvac 1 5w40/TDT 5w40. Both have proven in NUMEROUS UOA's to do EXCEPTIONALLY well.

Their website should have a "contact us" section to find a dealer. The next time my local dealer stops by I'll see if I can do anything for you.

I agree. The Hemi has to be one of the best sounding engines ever produced. I could always identify them by the unique sound no matter what type of exhaust they had. Sort of a hollow wallowing sound.

As for the blow off valve, the import guys go out and buy the biggest loudest BOV they can and drive around blowing off at everyone. I've chased a couple of them down in the GN and brought her up to 25psi and let off the gas right in their open window. Actually scared one guy pretty bad once. I don't have a BOV but with a huge intercooler and 3" piping, the sound it makes is downright loud when I let off the gas.

I sent them an email about finding a local dealer & also ran across an 07 post on hotboats.com about a guy becoming a penn dealer here, so I've got a post in there, too. Can't wait to get some & compare results. Thanks much for the info.

HDEOs still have 1200 ppm phosphorous and roughly 1400 ppm zinc - twice that of GF-4 passenger car oils, so something like Delo, or Rotella would work great. I'd run Rotella 5w-40 hands down - fantastic performance, readily available, and half the price of the boutique oils.

By the way, I nutted myself when I saw the pics of your Challenger!

Oddly enough, another option to replace the Valvoline before you decide what to ultimately use, is Havoline or Chevron 10w-40 and 20w-50, both of which have 1100 ppm zinc - 300 ppm more than GF-4 passenger car oils.

Thanks for the compliment Drew. I read on the race oil forum that KA426 is going to have an analysis done on the Brad Penn green oil, so am anxious to see what he finds. Quaker State Estended life w/ Slick 50 was also recommended but Rotella seems tried & true even though they cut back slightly on the zinc & phosphorus. I'm leary of Slick 50. Anyone have any experince w/ JB oil additives?

Drew, what's your opinion of Delo (non synthtic)? I've read some negative opinions of Pennzoil & don't they make Rotella?
I don't want to go synthetic, so will probably get the Rotella dino 15/40.
