I raced mopars for years, mostly wedge engines though.... FWIW, The only time I ever had a problem is when I used Kendall: I lost 2 engines on start up due to rod bearing failure; switched back to Valvoline and never had any further problems. That was around 1980.

IIRC Chrysler's Direct Connection racing handbook recommended using straight 40W for high performance and racing applications (along with an increased sump capacity, usually 8 quarts).

I would use Delo 400, 40W or 15-40W as necessary.
