Was woudering if you use synthic>synthic blend or just plain dino.Ford recomends 5w20 Motorcraft blend in the 4.6 with 5k oci but woudering what the bulk of people here use in their car and how long is your oci.
Brother-in-law lets the dealer use 5w-20 motorcraft blend for his 2004 F-150. Cousin uses 5w-20 quaker state and castorl gtx dino for his expy. Both use 5k OCI's.
My sister uses Mobil 1 5w-20 and runs it for 10,000 miles and has no complaints. Check out the UOA on this engine. The 5w-20 oils appear to be well formulated.
Dad's 04 F150 - MC 5w20 and FL820S filters until the warranty is up (about 1.5 more years! yay!)
97 F150 - AMSOIL 5w30 ASL usually. Currently on auto-rx cleaning phase. June oil changes usually.
98 Crown Vic - AMSOIL 5w30 ASL usually (final auto-rx rinse is almost done). Previously one year intervals, but maybe this year I might get more miles.
Mobil 1 10W30, in 2000 Expedition (5.4L) I do tow a Mustang show car in a enclosed 24 foot trailer.(7300 pounds total on hitch) No problems, fair gas mileage even.
My aunt has a 2001 I think Ford F-150 Super Crew with the 4.6litre. I have done most all her oil services and most on her husbans 1999 F-250 super duty crew cab short box 4x4 powerstroke with the automatic. They supply the filters and oil. They have used nothing but Motorcraft filters. The first two oil services for the 4.6litre they gave me Trop Artic 5W-30 and after that was two oil services that we used Shell Rotella T 15W-40 and Shell Rotella T 15W-40 was used to in the 7.3litre PSD for two oil services. After that it been Chevron Delo 400 15W-40. My uncle works for a company won't give the name out for the reason that this company is the supply of the Chevron Delo 400 now. Haven't had any problems due to the use of the 15W-40 HDEO. The cold weather isn't a big problem since both trucks are kept in heated garages, where it is usually kept at 65 degrees. Both trucks seem to love the oil. Also both trucks get 3,000 mile oil services. Neither of the trucks use oil. The 4.6 litre is usually only down less then a half of quart when I change it. The 7.3 litre seems to not use any oil.
1997 F-150 with almost 200,000 miles on a 4.6 liter. Have been using Motorcraft 820s filter with Motorcraft 5w30 and a 3,000 mile oci, but am changing to a 5,000 mile oci beginning with last oil change about two weeks ago.
