......you might wanna ease the OCI back to 3K with those conditions IMO..

03 crown vic, bought new, used 5w20 and fl820s filters and had great wear #s but i did not like the bottem end dry starts ( not totaly dry start noise, but enough to bother me) so last oil change i switched to penzoil syn. blend truck/suv 10w30 and just about eliminated dry start condition. i will have the oil analyzed next oil change, also the lab told me the viscosity of the 5w20 of the last sample i sent them was "on the low side of 5w20" viscosity numbers were:sus viscosity@ 210f were 49.8, should be 48-58.

Ford Escape 3.0L Duratec

55,400 miles and only owner of vehicle

Only used MC 5/20 semi
Only used FL820-S filter

Get oil and filters from Walmart (new 5 quart jugs of 5/20 semi $8.97) Can't beat the price or the performance.

Change oil every 3000 miles or so. For $12 it's a heck of an oil change.

I just changed the oil in our '97 Expedition 4.6L this morning. It has 118,500 miles on it.

I used Havoline Synthetic 5w30 & a Motorcraft FL820S filter. I will not change the oil again until July '06, which will be 5-6k miles.

Other oils that I've used & been satisfied with in the Expedition are:

Havoline dino 5w30
Valvoline Maxlife 5w30
QS semi-syn. 10w30
QS Peak Performance 5w30
Wal-Mart SuperTech 5w30

I'll try some 5w20 once my current oil supply is depleted.......in 2 years.

1997 Mustang 4.6

5w-30 Chevron and motorcraft filter, I get the oil for .89 before rebate (.49 quart after) and 3.87 for the motorcraft filter.

Grand total= $6.81 per oil change after rebate

Interesting>The bulk of the people here are using Motorcraft filters to which Ford recommends. To which i intend to use on my 05 Crown Vic.

Also was not surprised to see so many people using 5w20.I wasn't sure what to expect though. Most was synthic blend and full synthic.I would not use or recommend just straight dino juice though.I think most would agree on that. The 5w20 blend does hold up well in Miami heat and terrible traffic&a/c always on.

I believe the 5w20 blend was recommended for 01 and higher for the 4.6.For 00 and below 5w30 was recommended.

03 Escape 3.0 engine. About 24,000 miles. So far I have been using Mobil 1. Started with 0w20 and moved to 5w20 when 0w20 was discontinued. I intend to move to Mobil 7500 at the next oil change and will continue with 5000 OCI. I use Motorcraft FL820S filters.

My Current '99 F150 with the 4.6 gets Citgo Synthetic 5w30 on a 6000 mile OCI. Currently at 131,000 miles on the odometer, no engine issues ever. Previous oils included Valvoline Durablend 5w30 up to 70,000 + miles on a 3000 mile OCI, Havoline 5w20 with increased OCI to 5000-6000 miles for a year, and Rotella T synthiec with a 6000 mile OCI for a year. The 5w40 seriously dinged fuel mileage, with little benefit according to UOA.

Previous truck was a '97 F150 with the 4.6. Sold at 163,000 miles on the odomoeter. Valvoline Durablend 5w30 from new to sale on a 3000 mile OCI. No issues...

On my Dad's 1998 F-150 with the 4.6 we've used Havoline 5w30 every since he got it.

right after he got it and we changed the oil we noticed that it consumed oil when pulling, like a camper/trailer.
after about 3 or 4 more oil changes it stopped using oil and hasn't used oil since.

the was around 68,000 miles, it now has 107,000 miles and doesn't consume any oil.
we started doing the oil changes with a fram filter, but now have switched to strictly motorcraft.

96 T bird. 4.6 L . Used mainly Havoline 5w-30 in it and Motorcraft 820S filter 3000 OCI .120,000 miles.

'03 Marauder...started out using Pennzoil 5W-30 synth blend, then switched to "full synth" (I know, I know...

). After joining BITOG, switched to M1 (at 15,000 miles) and been using it ever since. Motorcraft filter always. Added Trilogy Motorsports blower at ~35,000 miles; car now has ~44,000 and still uses no appreciable oil between 5,000 mile changes.

I guess this is the definition of being a "happy camper"...

I'm currently using Mobil EP 5w-30 and MC FL820S oil filters in my 2003 Gran Marquis. Previously used MC 5w-20 and Amsoil ASL 5w-30. I have also used Amsoil SDF-11 oil filters; quit using due to practically dry starts with this filter. The car does not use any oil between 6 month changes. Mileage is usually 5k to 7k. Contemplating a 1 year oci with 6 month filter changes using the reformulated Amsoil ASL and Wix or MC filters.

Mighty HD, I don't think you will have any problem with the oci's you are using right now. I am attending a criminal justice program right now. I want to become a police officer. I have don quite a few ride-along's. And almost all the police cruisers are ford p-71 crown vic's. They have the 4.6litre's to. The guy I have done many of these ride-along's with department has their mantaince done at the dealer. Motorcraft 5W-20 is the fill and Motorcraft filters are used. This car has close to 90K on the clock. And they are about the hardest miles I have ever seen. And to top it all these cars are idling if they are not moving. They run from the first start at the beginning of the shift till the shift is over. These engines get 5K oci's and they have never had an oil related problem.

In the 2004 E350 with a V10 I have been using Schaeffers 7000 5W30 and plan to run this oil in my '06 'stang GT. I like this oil, my drivers reported that the truck "seems to run better" since I started using it. Run the Schaeffers oil in the other family cars and it seems to do well on an annual OCI.

Using motorcraft 5-20 in my 01 Merc Grand Marquis and 04 Expy w/ 5.4L going on 5000 mile intervals. May increase to 6000 to 7000 intervals if uoa continue to be good making it a twice a year task.

1998 Mustang GT 5 speed
Mobil 1 5w30 with motorcraft fl-820s

2000 Mercury Grand Marquis
Mobil 1 5w30 with motorcraft fl-820s

the merc is driven really soft because its my mom's. i beat on my car really hard and take it road racing a few times a year. no ill effects notorwise. although with 114k+ miles on the ticker, a new motor will be going in the stang soon.

2002 TownCar 4.6 Motorcraft FL820 since new, Mobil one 530 winter 1030 summer. No problems 5000mi oci.
