I use Pure One filters on everything. If you're talking Jeep 4.0 in most Jeep chassis (Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, etc.) you can upsize to a PL3001 for an extra half-quart capacity and added filtration area.

I live In michigan where it stays below freezing for the entire winter and can get very cold (coldest i have seen in person is -10 degrees F in a rare winter)

Now the fall is starting im thinking about winter.
whats do you guys feel about continuing to run Mobil 1 TDT 5w-40 all winter? I do let the jeep warm up for a while and never drive before coolant temp is above 120*F. Something I have noticed on my wrangler is the exhaust wraps around the oil pan shortly after leaving the engine (stock exhaust)

I would like to keep running a fully synthetic oil with a nice add pack.
How do you feel about Mobil 1 0w-40 for winter time? will this help in cold months or would the difference be negligible? My jeep manual says to run a 5w in the winter but maybe a 0w would be better since both oils are Xw-40. Is this a good idea or should i stick to the TDT?
yes Im over thinking it maybe but thats why im a BITOG member

I don't think the 5w-40 is an issue. I've fired up my 5.9 with no issues, no noises, etc, at 2* F with the 5W-40 T6 in it. My mom's 4.0 has had no issues with the same oil in the single digits either. Oil pressure builds instantly on both, even in the very cold weather.

Plus, I'm not big on idle warmups, so mine usually gets about 15 - 30 seconds at idle, and then gentle (under 2k rpm) driving until it's good and warm. Mom treats hers about the same in that respect.

x2. The TDT 5w40 is also fully synthetic. I've had no issues starting mine in the cold winters running Rotella T5 10w30, so I doubt you'd have issues with TDT.

ok thanks, good to know. This will be my first winter running anything but 10w-30 from the dealer I bought it from.

bought it in February last year.

rslifkin, Whats wrong with idle warm ups?

Im now running SI-1 this tank. I have 15W40 rotella in, and I fellt its a bit to much for this "rebuild".

SI-1 seems to have made a difference already, still not done with the tank of gas, but the car idles smoother.

Rotella 15w40 is out as soon as the gas tank is empty. I'll replace with Pennzoil 10W30 dino as I bought 6 gallons on Amazon. I'll buy more Rotella for sure, just a different one.

Filters - Im stuck with 6 Wix 51515 for now. They seem to work well!

any UOAs of TDT in a 4.0L i tried finding one and couldn't even find a UOA using any engine

I went threw your posts and only found TDT in a 6.0L ford diesel, still a good read.

I think my New favorite for 200 Jeep 4.0s is Mobil 1 0w-40. That will go in my 99s Freshly Built 4.0 once shes got a 1000 miles or so. I think she "Mated" just fine in the first 20 miles. Those were HARD driven first 20 break-in miles. Probably 90%-95% broke in now, after about 60 miles. Changed Custom break-in oil after first 10 miles. Am now about 50 miles into 2nd Break-in oil change.

I just changed my oil since it was time to the Rotella T5 10w30 with no lucas oil stabilizer which I was doing when I was using valvoline maxlife 10w30.

I'll gradually will add the lucas to the T5 over the course of the next hundred miles just to see if the rockers or the valves begin adjusting to the new oil without being the Maxlife. I'll just have to be patient.

I switched just to see what a non-HM oil will do for my cherokee that has 230,800miles on it. Plus a lot of you have said great things about the oil.

all that lucas is going to do is thicken up your oil and dilute your additives. if you want a thicker oil try a thicker oil. lol

15w-40 rotella or 5w-40 rotella t6

wow. that's why some people love coke cola and some like pepsi.

I had the rear main replaced the spring of last year and since then I have always used lucas and well before the rear main as I have plenty of miles on this engine. Can't beat the 4.0HO, aw4, and the np231 xcase

I did notice that my oil pressure went down a good bit when I switched the oil from the maxlife to the T5. I'll just see in the long run if the Shell's oil is all good for my jeep. When I was using the maxlife with the lucas my oil pressure stayed a pretty constant 60psi. Now with the T5 it fluctuates a little more after the engine gets warmed up.

No, this is more akin to some people liking eating a nice home cooked meal covering all of the major food groups, ending with a nice piece of chocolate cake. And somebody else thinking they are adding "value" to their meal by cutting out 1/2 of every serving and covering the whole lot with a couple cups of lard.

Also, Lucas isn't an opinion. Its more about those who look at data, and those that don't. If the data showed that Lucas was amazing, then yeah I'd use it. Kinda like Marvel Mystery Oil, general idea on this site is that it works, and for a good reason. Your oil pressure is likely lower because of an increase in flow, and less resistance, which is a good thing. BTW I can't tell the difference between coke and pepsi.

60 PSI of oil pressure in a 4.0L jeep? seems kinda high if thats at full temp

again that lucas is thickening up your oil way more then is needed.
