Ill keep an eye on coolant level and oil level

The 4.0 engine platform is solid, it's only the "0331" head from 2000-2001 XJ's and 1999-2001 TJ/WJ's that may have issues.

And even then, the don't "all" crack. Its just that they went from NEVER having any cylinder head problems unless severely overheated to a new casting that cracks maybe 10% of the time at at between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. If this were an aluminum cylinder head, no one would be surprised at all.

i have a warranty for the next year...how can i make it crack without damaging anything else? hahahaha jk

also I feel i could swap the head out myself so if the time comes its ok...can anyone say port N polish? LOL

Even better... You can buy a high performance aluminum head that was built from the ground up to get more power from a Jeep 4.0. It is street legal too!

I think the 0331 head on my mom's 100k mile 99 4.0 Grand Cherokee might be starting to crack (air in the cooling system, no coolant loss). Being that it's not major, and she hates that Jeep, I'm just going to keep an eye on it and hope nothing worse happens.

I used to use Pure One filters on my Jeep. I think the silicone anti-drain valve is a little too flexible during the summer. I had some issues with dry starts when using the Pure Ones during the summer months. I switched to the Purolator Classic with the normal valve and haven't had any issues since. They are also cheaper, so that is a good benefit too.

you can get a replacement head for as low as 400$ they arent all 2000$

I was never a big fan of having 2 metals with different expansion rates in an engine
(ie iron block alum. heads.)
but if done correctly its been proven durable.

In that vein.... There's a guy with a rail that runs a hopped up Ford 300 I6 at Shannonville. Blew my freakin' mind to see that bugger run bottom 12's.... Or was it 11's? It sounded like a tractor played in fast-forward.

I think after reading what all great things I have heard about rotella T5 10w30 I am going to run my jeep cherokee that has 230,300 miles on it, my dad's cherokee (my back up jp one day when mine dies) that has 165,000+miles, and my parent's tacoma that has 120,000+miles on it. I am going to run rotella 10w30 in all three of them.

Now my question is how much is a gallon of this stuff at walmart? 6qts each for the cherokees and 5qts for the tacoma w/ a v6. So that would be 5jugs.

I'll post how it goes once I do the next oil changes on all 3 and drive them.

^Each gallon jug is about $16 at most WM's for Rotella T5 10w-30 in the silver/gray jugs, so you'll have to either buy a 5th or use a quart of something else to top it off with as you spread the 4 gallons around(16 quarts), just use up the 1 random quart of choice between them.

I run these exclusively, I now have over 20 in my basement since they are on sale at AAP for 5 bucks, plus there is a MIR

I could do a 4.7 stroker for that much

Do you have smog tests in your area? The reason the 4.0 replaced the 4.2 was because Chrysler engineers said they needed a shorter stroke and wider in order to make it pass smog tests.

I'm doing the same thing, I've slowly been converting everything over to the Rotella 10w30 it's very good stuff. I tried it in the Jeep which is what got me hooked but we now have it in my son's Chrysler and daughter's Chevy as well, and it's soon to be in my wife's Chevy too.

I stock up when I can, you can get 10w30 on sale at Advance for $13 every 4-5 months and Walmart has the T-5 everyday for $16, occasionally with stick on $2 instant coupons.

Every vehicle I've put it in has loved the stuff, I'm sold. All of our vehicles are older and fairly high miles though except the Jeep, but it's an I-6 enough said.

cool, because I changed my oil again yesterday with more M1 TDT and used a Purolator PureOne filter.

I did change it very early at only 2100 miles but This was the first time introducing a high detergent oil to my engine and didn't want excess sludge floating around, plus I wanted to get the Fram oil filter I had on there off.

I'm too cheap for that, I don't see any real benefits for myself to switch, I'm not really interrested in longer OCI's.
In fact the next time I change I'll be running triple T dino (got a good deal on it).
I think i'm gonna use the dino in my ZJ aswell.

ok guys, I was looking at my old oil, it was drained into a pan that was never used before.

I drained the old oil back into the mobil 1 gallon jugs i had.

at the bottom of the drain pan was some nasty gritty looking gunk.
is this just normal engine sludge that got removed? it looks like ground up corn covered in black oil. lol

glad i changed the oil as early as i did
