3.6 liter Chrysler V6

Regarding all the horror stories on the plastic oil filter housing, is it inevitable that it will fail or can you just be careful everytime you do an oil change? Eg. It's technically the o-ring on the housing that does the sealing, not the threads. So IMO you don't need to be tightening the cap snug everytime, can leave half a rotation off.

This is true, but it should be torqued to just snug.

The housing can leak from underneath resulting with oil running out the valley. The Dorman part fixes all of that. Last I checked they were on backorder. I was going to get one to just have on hand, and maybe replace before the OE failed. There are Chinese cast aluminum ones on the market, but some YouTube investigation shows they are of dubious quality.

Agree - the 8 speed in my 14 Jeep GJ and my 16 Ram have been flawless and are always in the right gear as needed.
So far I’m liking that 10 speed you guys sent from the assembly plant …
(well, need a little time for the push/pull buttons 👀 )

The oil filter housing is fine if you dont use a 1/2” drive ratchet and crank on it. 150K on mine, I’m the only one who touches it. And I’ve never used a torque wrench on it.

I know they have improved the Pentastar - but my 2020 sounds like a diesel next to our 2017/2022 5.3L’s …
that‘s with M1 or RGT … I think lots of folks who complain about engine noise have DOHC engines …
My Pentastar is just plain loud …
Might try 5W30 next …
My 18 is a s quiet as a church mouse if I don't let it sit for over a week then it rattled for under a second. RGT 0w20.

LOL! Thank you - I was put off by those buttons at first myself - kinda of an unnatural process to pull a button to shift a transmission. Atleast Park you just push it.

I go till it just stops, no extra torque at all. So far that’s been working great for me.

That’s what I find so intriguing how people talk about other brands. Especially Internet forums.

Hyundai hid the issue, denied warranty claims and it wasn’t until an engineer whistleblower came out and spilled the beans and NHTSA got involved, that they started fixing these engines.
Where Chrysler, from what I read, is actually very good at covering the head and rocker arm issues, even outside of warranty.
The Asian OEs, especially Toyota like to defer what should be a recall until a majority of those vehicles are past basic and powertrain warranties and calls it a “customer satisfaction” campaign. Unless NHTSA gets after them.

Not sure about the American OEs but I assume it’s more of a customer goodwill thing to some repairs outside of warranty if there’s some kind of relationship with the dealer and owner.

I believe Ford and Chrysler’s OHC efforts were all in-house except for the Duratec/4.0 OHC Cologne V6 which were Ford Europe or Mazda. GM’s OHC designs I think involved Opel/Daewoo/Holden or a outside engineering company like Cosworth. Wasn’t the OHC 350 designed by Cosworth and built by Mercury Marine or Evinrude?

Yes

2017+ have redesigned rockers, jury still out on whether it is more reliable

Not that I am aware of

Oil coolers fail every 60k like clockwork
I had a 15or 16 Journey with the 3.6 as a company car that about 30k the rocker assembly started disintegrating. It was in the shop for weeks because Chrysler did not want to cover it under warranty. My large global company had switched from Ford To Chrysler for their 100k power train warranty. They had taken a hit with the Ford transmission failures. I didn’t care because I had nice rentals. The mechanic showed me the rocker assembly. It looked like there was not enough metal in the metal. Oil was changed every 3-4k.
