My 4.7 Durango developed the lash ticking over the past few months. I have used MMO in the past and decided to try it here. When starting the vehicle it had a tick the first few minutes until the oil circulated. I put in 5.5 quarts of Castrol semi-syn and then added half a quart of MMO. I noticed the second day of starting the ticking got less and less. This morning I started her up and no ticking at all. Yes I am going to say that MMO stopped that ticking. By cleaning whatever it was out my engine is running smoother now. I have proof to me that it has solved an issue with MY truck.

I have the same thing. Apparently it's common with the 4.7 and it doesn't hurt the motor. It's embarrassing in public, though. I ran 5w20 this winter and there was no ticking. Just an FYI.

I agree with everything you have said, you put in 5.5 quarts of oil which is 176 ounces, and you put in about 16 ounces of MMO, so that's 10% MMO by Oil Volume.

Are you going to use 10% MMO at each OCI, because my thinking is if you continue to use MMO in your oil at each OCI then you will not have to worry about your lifter tick coming back.

Yes I am going to keep using it for awhile... maybe permanently. My Durango is just about at 170,000 miles and I am trying to keep her until 300,000. THEN I will decide whether or not to try to push 500,000. I am keeping all 3 of my vehicle until 300,000. So my next MMO treatment will be my Tahoe! Just about reaching 100,000. Oh wait... I did do that to the Tahoe!! Almost forgot. My Outback only has 48,000 and she has been on a steady diet of PP 5w-40 European since 300 miles. No need for MMO in that.

Yes you are right. I was on the Durango club web site and it is a known problem. Very annoying but won't cause any harm. I would just rather not have it, so "MMO is the way to go"!!! I am going to probably switch to Rotella 5w-40 Synthetic soon. A good strong oil to keep her innards clean. MMO for the truck is like MOM for your body!!!

I agree with you here, Pennzoil Platinum does have alot of cleaning properties, so since you have been using it since 300 miles and I would say that your Outback's Engine is probably spotless. JMO

Yes it probably is so let's hope I can keep it that way!!

48,000 miles is a baby. You could if you wanted to, although not necessary, is add a pint of MMO for the last 500-1000 miles of your winter OCI. That will keep the engine clean, sort of a maint dose.

I'm actually pretty surprised it freed up the lifter noise so quickly and with half the suggested dose. Glad it worked for you, no point in using a full qt if you are seeing such fast results with just a pint! Good stuff!

Yeah it is still quiet on startup so I guess it was enough. I am going to make sure that I have some in there every oil change.

500 miles before the change? Permanent use? What's the difference? If it's working, then use it all the time. The cost is minimal.

I run MMO in my fuel and oil all the time and my vehicles run very smoothly.

+1

I also have a Dodge truck, a 2001 Dakota with almost 130,000 on it now. I have a 3.9 V6 though. I don't always run MMO in the oil, the last couple of times I just added it about 500 miles prior to my next oil change.

I am about 700 miles shy of my next oil change now so I added 18 ounces MMO to the crankcase today. I would normally just use half a quart but the bottle had a little more than that in it.

I went running errands around town today after adding the MMO and all I can say is my engine runs really smooth when I add the MMO. Cold starts are not an issue now that hot weather is here again but the engine starts right up in a split second, just a blip of the ignition key. My engine runs very smooth and quiet and has more power, and just plain has more get up and go when I use MMO in the oil. I can tell a big difference when I go up a hill. My truck runs great and still has a smooth quiet idle and good power when I run only oil in it from the beginning of an OCI too. I only have a 4 quart sump anyway, so that is why I don't run MMO for the full length of the OCI, plus with hot weather here now I don't think it's necessary.

I have been using it in my gas for the last 4 or 5 months too, and I get the same smooth running and nice even idle, increased power and 1.5 to 2 MPG increase with MMO at roughly 2.5 ounces to each 10 gallons of fuel.

I mentioned MMO on another forum 2 days ago and they really threw me under the bus about it. I would bet the folks on that other forum probably never tried MMO, and probably never will. But my only complaint is I wish I had discovered MMO much sooner.

MMO is a great product, especially for the price.

I've noticed over the years the MMO bashers are the people who never used it, doesn't matter what board you read. Funny thing MMO is growing in popularity, more people are using it and reporting positive results. The nay sayers won't change my mind about it, I've used it longer than many of the nay sayers have lived. LOL

Enjoy the Holiday!
