2025 so far EV sales up 28%

Yes, there is always a reason for everything. Multiple ones in this case. Limited model lineup. Competition roaring. GM coming out with EV SUVs that Americans love. Waining public interest in EVs. Now that interested parties have purchased. High EV costs

China cranking out EV cars even from cell phone makers.

We all know the other more terrorist activities against Tesla no sense going into that. Everyone knows. Even if this goes away, what will happen if the taxpayer gift of $7,500 goes away?
Yep, a lot of things going on. The second quarter will paint a better more accurate picture, and hopefully the vandal nut jobs will be out of the mix.

I think one issue with Tesla is they don’t have anything mainstream looks like a traditional SUV. Which is literally the biggest volume segment in the US.

I hear time and time again that the Model Y is “not an SUV just a slightly bigger Model 3” and the Model X is in the same boat just compared to a Model S and expensive.

Look at what’s popular… Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Prologue, Mach-E… all of them LOOK like SUVs. That’s what many Americans want. Sure, the SUV shape is less efficient, but if Lucid can make Gravity fairly efficient for its size Tesla can do it too.

And then there are full size SUVs. GM can’t crank out Escalades fast enough. Tesla needs to make a CyberSUV. Take a Cybertruck and make it a boxy third row SUV. Now it will just make sense instead of “that’s not a truck!”

Tesla 2025 1st quarter sales just announced. They could not be any worse, yes, in the toilet. Horrible is an understatement.
Tesla First quarter 2025 sales 336,681

First quarter 2024 wasnt great at 387,000
Heck, a 13% decline from last years not so great numbers.

Just wait until the earnings release later this month. Oh boy ...
Maybe with the model change over things will improve next quarter?

Earlier on this page @E365 posted GM EV sales up 94% 1st quarter 2025
Car sales are overall up for Q1 2024 as buyers are trying to get their purchase completed under the wire during these uncertain economic times.

Maybe that’s why I finally gave into the Model Y. I was adamant about not wanting an SUV. I wanted a hot hatch EV and specifically a Tesla and that was the closest possible option.

Global sales of Model X, Model S, Cybertruck and Semi combined were only 12,881 for Q1 2025. Tesla’s high-end car sales are almost completely gone. You’d assume Model S and X would get cancelled soon. Cybertruck needs to be totally revamped to be much cheaper.

Lightning (7,187) probably easily outsold Cybertruck in Q1. Silverado EV/Sierra EV getting close - and the sub-$80k models of those are starting to come out now. The $59k Silverado EV LT likely announced soon too.

My understanding is, a refresh for the bigger vehicles in coming. Will probably help somewhat; who knows how much?

Deliveries down 13% Q1 YoY, worst qtr since 2002. TSLA up 5% as of now. Who the heck knows what's next?
Luckily I bought my holdings awhile back. Still up over 100%. The roller coaster continues. He's wack.

Looks like the poor numbers were already factored in.

Musk supposedly stepping away from his government stint, I highly doubt it.
I just saw that story. I guess if there’s a time to get out the sales numbers give him a citable reason that no one would really blame him for making that decision. He had a real rough go of it in my state yesterday and poured a lot of money into an election that lost badly. Maybe it’s all getting to be too much.

Then again I don’t think he’d actually back out of it. The story read more of rumor instead of any real announcement.

He is stepping away, it was always part of the plan. We are into the month of April now and sometime in May he will be done as a temporary government employee. He’s allowed 130 days as a temporary employee
It’s all in the real news, Tesla was having many problems before this however, this certainly compounded those issues.

“Special government employees are permitted to work for the federal government for "no more than 130 days in a 365- day period," according to data from the Office of Government Ethics. Musk's 130-day timeframe, beginning on Inauguration Day, runs dry May 30. ”

Considering his data hooks in every department have been established, yes, I would say he can divert his attention elsewhere.

He’s still going to have to step down from Tesla if he wants the company to survive.

He has to pull out of politics completely in order to salvage whatever is salvageable.
However, knowing his fragile ego, I highly doubt it.
I don’t think he can fix it. Tesla needs someone else to right the ship.

I have to believe Tesla is salvageable because Tesla is not the problemm. But who knows? This is one quarter. Let's see what changes...
Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is, shooting your customer base in the foot is a lousy business strategy.

The good, if you can call it that:
  • The refreshed Model Y and 3.
  • Tthe launch of a new low-cost EV, the stripped-down Tesla Model Y.
The bad:
  • Tesla faces short-term risks like declining deliveries and margin pressure.
  • The other, big thing.
Outlook? IMO, short term problems but long term positive.
Personally, I just hope too many people don't get hurt.

It is salvageable at this point in the US. I don't think Asia is an issue.
But Europe? Not sure.

I think Tesla Europe sales is down like 49%. Ouch!
Of course the overall European vehicle market is facing a somewhat dim outlook.

Let's see what happens.
