2025 so far EV sales up 28%

He’s still going to have to step down from Tesla if he wants the company to survive.

I don’t think he can fix it. Tesla needs someone else to right the ship.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I’m sure you know this, but for others. Musk is an employee of Tesla. The Board of Directors, whom are elected by the shareholders, could fire him at any time.
Over a decade ago, the board of directors fired him from PayPal

Musk supposedly stepping away from his government stint, I highly doubt it.

It was stated before his role ever started, that it would only be temporary.

As for EV sales, I'm responsible for at least one. It hasn't been vandalized yet. Maybe because the whackos out vandalizing Teslas, are looking for it at the PO Box of the business it's registered to. 🤣

There are multiple avenues of possible "harassment." My brother who was one of the first Cybertruck owners has had a few vindictive HOA complaints from the local passerby's. My 87 year old republican mom has banned him from parking on the family ranch due to the fire risk. He did get it wrapped early on, but we'll see how prevents rust in the long term.

The EV sales in EU is up 28%.
Yep. But let's take a look at the sales numbers...
Tesla suffered a 44% slump in sales in February, and ceded top place to Volkswagen as the best selling EV brand, even though the Model Y and the Model 3 retained their top two spots.

The cars ain't the problem. Registrations of the Model Y fell by 56% to 8,800 units in February, while registrations of the Model 3 fell by 14% to 6,800 units.
The difference in volume drops between these two vehicles suggests that the decline in the brand’s overall sales is firmly rooted in the Model Y changeover.

Rumors of Tesla's demise are a little premature... Time will tell.

I don’t think Tesla goes away. They just risk no longer being the power player in the spot if they keep dropping while others grow. I still don’t have a brand I’d rather have, but more options keep getting added.

Europe Model Y sales will likely get back to "normal" as the Juniper versions are available. The cheaper, strippie Y is likely to be released this year.

By the way, I've seen a few Junipers locally. The back looks like it got it's rear kicked in.

As I posted in this thread yesterday. My cousins nephew still has his, and still likes it. He was one of the first to take delivery. Other than recently having some "Mostly Peaceful" vandalism inflicted upon it, he enjoys it. He thinks the coward who vandalized it should pay, and since he's a lawyer, they likely will.

The China market is tough for everyone. Ask GM, Porsche, etc. It's an important market for everyone.

GM 2024 overall sales declined by 14% compared to 2023.
In 2024, Porsche experienced a significant decline in China, with sales plummeting by 28% compared to the previous year, leading to a reduction in dealership network and a shift in focus towards profitability and key markets.

Pick any major car company and look at the results.

How did you come up with this? Unless you are talking about just China?
I did pick a major company.
GM sales were up not down, GM sales HIGHEST TOTAL sales in 2024 since 2019

and if you are talking about just China, GM 4th quarter China sales up 40%
https://investor.gm.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gm-china-sales-continued-grow-q4-over-40

"Deliveries in China jumped 40.6% quarter on quarter to nearly 600,000 units, following the 14.3% sequential sales gain in Q3. It was the highest quarter-on-quarter increase since Q2 2022. In 2024, the company delivered over 1.8 million vehicles in China."

Yes, China. Everyone is struggling in China.

Yeah, ok, I understand, even though GM China was up 40% in the 4th quarter it has had some down quarters as well.
1st quarter of 2025 to be reported end of April. So I think too soon to know about the first quarter of 2025 yet GM is killing it in sales as a company anyway. So lucky they arent too dependent I think on China, I dont watch individual markets as much, your comment caught me by surprise is all.

I do acknowledge GM seems to always had a problem in China and that is ok since they are doing so well elsewhere. After all China is an enemy and who knows what happens from here.

One thing for sure, American companies with large overseas presence will have a problem depending on what takes place in this crazy time... yikes!!!

China is the largest car market in the world. China is important to every car company.
GM is restructuring its operations in China, including closing its Shenyang Norsom plant.

What is important is to make money and sell cars. Putting a lot of resources into a country that is our enemy may or may not be a good long term investment. Bottom line is it is a big world. :)

GM is killing it with EVs. I'm still not sure they make the one for me, but they have my attention now.

..and to your credit since I know you sort of. Im dont think GM will ever deliver that sports car like performance of a Tesla. They just arent known for that in any vehicle at that price point. Not sure they will ever be, though they try sometimes but who knows?

... and with that said, I dont think Tesla will compete with GM like SUV types. But then again, who knows?

I think, really two different markets. But the unknown is how sporty those GM EV SUVs might appeal to some of the sporty car drivers.
(just thoughts bubbling through my head) :)

GM making some progress back in China - admittedly after some big hits lately. But still better than continued losses.

Shanghai – General Motors and its joint ventures delivered more than 442,000 units in China in the 2025 first quarter, with positive year-on-year sales growth and the third consecutive quarter of sequential gains in market share.

  • New energy vehicle (NEV) growth: Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including both pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), surged 53.2% on an annual basis. GM’s NEV portfolio in China, already the most comprehensive offering among global OEMs, will further expand this year to add extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), offering at least one NEV option for every new local vehicle to be launched in 2025.”

Where are they made? GM is crushing it with EV growth, but I believe its two volume sellers are made in Mexico.
Lotta Bolts around here... The Bolt assembly is in Lansing, but the drivetrain, infotainment, HVAC are from South Korea.

Interesting times ahead?
