OM calls for 0W-16 but ok to use 0W-20 if you go back to 0W-16 on next change. I have a jug of 0W-20 PP full synthetic and a jug of 5W-20 PP full synthetic left over from other vehicles. Need 6.4 qts. Do you any problem using the jug of 0W-20 and top off with 1.4 qts of 5W-20? Thanks.

Well, I too own a VENZA(2023) and have only used 0W16 thus far for warranty purposes.
However, I also have 0W20 in my oil stash and have been pondering the same thing, I just haven't used the 0W20(in your case, 5W20).
It probably won't hurt anything for a single OCI however we just don't know.

In 50 years, I have never hurt any engine from using the wrong grade of oil.
I'm surprised that your '24 VENZA requires 6.4 qts.(you may want to check that) while my '23 VENZA only requires 4.5 qts. as does the RAV4 Hybrid which is the same drivetrain. The only difference between the RAV4 hybrid & the Venza is in the hybrid battery. Where the RAV4 uses a nickel metal hydride, the VENZA uses a lithium ion(under the rear seat). Other than that(make no mistake), they're the same vehicle in different clothing.

The only difference it would make is if you had not rescanned page 485 and poured 6.4 quarts of either viscosity into your crankcase.

Don’t waste the oil you have on hand. That engine will run fine on the 0w-20 and 5w-20.

16 and 20 are basically interchangeable for the average daily driving situation in that Toyota.

So true. A lot of people have a hard time grasping the thought of running a 0w16 but in reality the difference between 0w16 and 0w20 at operating temperature is typically only about 1cst, your engine really won't know the difference.

As has been covered here many many times, Toyota gives you a clear out in their verbiage in the OM. They can't on one hand say, "An oil with a higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions." and then hold it against you for using an oil with a higher viscosity.

It's so weird how they write it - "best choice", "may be used however, it MUST be replaced with 0W16 at next change", "an oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited". The VW owner's manual is a bit more simple, you must use XYZ approval.

I remember my first 4.6L V8 in 2001 spec'ing 5W-20 and I was really wanting to use at least a 5W-30. The only 5W-20 on the WalMart shelves at the time was Motorcraft semi-syn, and that's what it got for it's life time. Well, that car lasted 296,xxx miles until the second deer strike took it out. It burned no oil.

Fast forward to 2023 and both of our vehicles spec 5W-30. They're both turbo-charged, but we drive them like Grandma Jones. They would probably give good service with a variety of oil grades.

My previous car/now my son's that I bought new, '13 Ford Focus 5 Spd, 135K, 11 years old, sees some autocross use now, 5W20 Motorcraft syn blend over most of it's life. Uses zero oil. Has zero issues. Folks really worry too much about 20 grade. I've thought about jumping to 30 b/c of the more "severe" duty it sees but nah, the 20 is fine.

I have never had an engine failure running the oil specified in the OM. Our 2024 will be using Mobil1 0W-16 (just replaced the factory fill oil at 5k miles). I trust the manufacturer and the engineers that designed the engine. Sent a sample of the oil to Blackstone for analysis.
