2024 Lexus RX350h -- 1000 mile review

The CVT is essentially magnetic when it comes down to it. Our rav4 is a 4 cylinder with the same principle of transmission - the driveline is /fun/, though in RAV4 guise it’s noisy and has a little thrash to it over 2400 rpms or so. At 70 however there’s no engine noise at all, and it’s probably lugging away at a very dampened 1300 rpm. My guess is driveline vibes in the RX will be imperceptible. Also, that suv weighs around 4700, which dampens a lot of vibrations.

Seems to be the styling of day. Folks ding Toyota and BMW the most for it. But they are not the only offenders. Your ‘22 Tahoe for example ain’t winning any smallest grill competitions that’s for sure.

That is no comparison to that monstrosity of a grill on that Lexus. The Tahoe grill is tasteful and doesn't protrude out and look like a plastic wicker basket!

I didn’t realize that the RX was that small. The completely shared platform is interesting too. Just like GM in the 80s.

I don’t ‘ow if those MPGs are good or not. I’m pretty sure the rav4 does much better.

A face only a mother could love... But it is pretty nice, as far as SUVs go. I prefer a sedan or pickup. And the pickup needs to have some character; too nice and I am afraid to use it.

Oh I agree that they are wonderful vehicles and I have 2 customers with them and they are one the most reliable vehicles built today in my opinion....and the looks do grow on you over time. Your model in the pic is a pretty truck - the newer ones are a little too bold/plasticky to me for the time beings. Yours has nice trim where the other is just plain and no trim so that screams cheap to me.

It surprised me too, the smallness of the interior. Do an interior dimensions comparison between an RX, a Lexus GS and a current RAV4 and it’s a bit of a head-scratcher. Based on the test drive of the 2015 RX, I have no doubt it will handle average 30 mpg, and it will do it in the quietude and girth of a 4400lb chassis. (The next gen hybrid is +4700) - this is impressive gas mileage for the weight. Our current RAV is sitting at a hair over 40mpg average, for roughly the same interior dimensions, but it’s simply a different vehicle, punky - light on it’s feet, and wallows if you put a couple large dudes in it. I mean, drag the ground like a clown car type of wallowing. In town, the RAV 4 wins. Distance commute, I’m gonna have a hard time leaning away from the RX.

Odd comparison. The BMW X3 seems larger, has better visibility, is similar in weight, and gets close in rated MPG, without the hybrid tech. I know, the X3 could potentially bust your wallet, but in its defense is surprisingly highly rated for uncharacteristic reliability against the brand’s stereotype. As a 5’10” male, I fit better in the bimmer, albeit I’m pretty sure they angled the steering column to make all of it fit. Grr.

Not a Tahoe
Yeah, the fish looks more like our Lexus -
But, the radiator and air box intake runs from headlight to headlight on the Tahoe …140°-150° F transmission temps at 75 mph …
Both the 2017 & 2022 have tow pkgs …
Excellent points 4WD - just ignore the catfish noodlers - they get way too much muddy water in their eyes 👀

Just got back from vacation on Wednesday from last Friday at St.Michaels Maryland. Drove my 2023 Rav4 Hybrid and it was great the 2 plus hours with traffic each way. Filled the tank before I left and reset the MPG. Lots of hills going to Maryland from my area. The drive up and back I averaged 50.2 MPG on the dash. I would say 66% of the time I was in eco mode doing 3 miles over the speed limit with the sunroof open the whole time and no airconditioning. The other 33% was in Sport mode with climbing the hills and merging if need be. Little over 13K miles on it & I love it more and more as time passes. I think that new Lexus is very sharp looking but not for the money.

Good to see you dumped the original fill early. How did that look?
It looked like 1000 mile old oil, but I did keep the oil filter. I’ll cut it open some day.

RAV4 is over 600 pounds lighter.
