Is the Roki avaliable at the Subaru Parts counter? I know Japan-built cars come with Roki from the factory.
If so, I might grab one for the wife's new upcoming Crosstrek
Yes, if the PN is 15208AA170.

I disagree. Unless it has changed very recently, the dealership still uses Roki filters on the FA20 WRX, FA24WRX and the BRZ/86 twins here in the States.No. Only from the factory.
Is this you?
Obviously, you cannot make a decision. Just drive it to dealership.
You are welcome. I am glad I reminded you that you actually asked for advice.
CAFE penalties are based on how far the whole fleet misses the avg mpg target defined by CAFE. There are other ways to achieve better fuel mileage than running thinner oil. Ford went back to 5W-30 from 5W-20 in the Coyote V8. Could be it was cheaper to pay some CAFE penalty due to a hair less fuel milage than pay for warranty work.H/K are being subjected to cafe penalties for specifying 30 grade oils instead of 20 for T-GDI applications?
I stand corrected. I looked up the part number and also saw the link that @schwinney posted. I presume it’s a Toyo Roki since it’s made in Japan and is black.I disagree. They are. The Roki (Tokyo Roki) filters AFAIK are the trademark black, say Tokyo Roki maybe now Roki but Made In Japan and are high quality units.I stand corrected. What difference in fuel consumption is obtained in lab setting between 20 grade and 30? If these manufactures are trying to squeeze every last penny of profits, surely a ECU tune for improved MPG would significantly offset the lab based MPG loss of using a 30 instead if 20 grade oil and yield superior engine protection?CAFE penalties are based on how far the whole fleet misses the avg mpg target defined by CAFE. Any ECU tune difference would also influence performance. What difference in fuel consumption is obtained in lab setting between 20 grade and 30? Some Subaru guys run a Mazda N3R1-14-302 because it is a Tokyo Roki filter that will fit, and has cellulose-fiber blend media of some kind. Essentially a semi synthetic media filter. Can be used if filter you are looking for is unobtanium. RX-8 filter. https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Mazda-N3R1-14-302-Filter-Cartridge/dp/B00HG7G3VA/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=U5SZ21VETBFC&keywords=mazda+n3r1-14-302&qid=1661003734&sprefix=mazda+n3r1,aps,205&sr=8-2
Blue is Fram
Black is Roki.
Yes.
Purolator, Fram regular line, Supertech,.. the Mazda Tokyo Roki filter..
The Subaru blue Fram filters..
The Subaru black Tokyo Roki filters..
There are more filter choices available. There is a filter company called Full that makes filters that may fit. There is truly a plethora of options.
Any one of them should be good, seems to come down to the quality of the ADBV and again, what you pay for vs marketing...
No offense or anything but you did exactly this.

It's actually Toyo Roki. But I have been using the blue OEM filters in several Subaru's for around 300,000 miles and have never had an issue. Have even run whatever cheap filter came with an oil change bundle and have never had an issue. They are. They would deny coverage for that, I believe. I seen them deny coverage for the smallest mod.So, if the dealer will deny warranty coverage for any engine related issues based on oil use, with “not even a single mod”, wouldn’t they also deny coverage if you fit an aftermarket oil pan? It’s a very obvious mod.
Just trying to grasp the logic of “Subaru will deny warranty” followed by a recommendation for a mod. They would deny coverage for that, I believe. I seen them deny coverage for the smallest mod.
Never have I proposed to the op to install a aftermarket oil pan. It was merely a reply to tigeo on his "snow donuts" comment and the effect of it. Grasping at straws, ain't ya???
Should have grasped the logic that the original thread took a left turn, right turn, u turn into something else.Just trying to grasp the logic of “Subaru will deny warranty” followed by a recommendation for a mod.
All in the same post.
Man, these snow donuts sure are causing drama! Here's some in my car!Should have grasped the logic that the original thread took a left turn, right turn, u turn into something else.
Logic was, if you're going to deviate from the warranty with lube not required and void the warranty, might as well do a mod that is proven to extend engine life in case of "snow donuts" .
