Looking for advice here. My employer took delivery of a new 2020 F250 with a 6.2l in January. This truck will see 15-20k miles in a year with half or more put on in June and July towing an 18 foot enclosed trailer with equipment and spare parts to support our buying stations. I did the first oci at 2500 miles with MC Syn Blend 5w30 and FL820S. We serviced again at 7500 miles and anticipate a 5000 mile oci. I am wanting to go to Schaeffer full synthetic between 15 and 20k miles whenever that OCI happens. So here’s the question: Wix or Wix XP filter? We religiously run Wix on everything from pickups to forklifts to OTR trucks even our production air compressors. For the record, we don’t get rid of anything. The old shop truck has 335k miles on it and the warehouse truck is at 320k. I have to pick quality parts to keep this alive for many years to come. TIA

Well if you want to go to Schaeffer go for it buy it yourself. He'll never know LOL

Boss has no problem paying for the best lubricants. Schaeffer is already a vendor of ours as we use their screw compressor oils in some of our production comps and the moly chain lube in the spray can for roller chains and forklift chains.

Wix or NAPA Gold.
I'm not overly impressed by the synthetic media in the Platinum (XP). It seems thin and doesn't filter as well as the paper.

At authorized intervals for warranty I honestly think the 7000 would be a very good choice. Group II+ and 25% PAO is a pretty stout oil for a blend. I'm not real sure the 9000 can do better in that application.

I put 306k on a 2012 6.2L running M1 10W-30 for 10k and mostly Purolator/Bosch filters. Sold with no engine problems at all.

Almost 30k on a 2019 with the same setup.

If you're sold on Wix, just the standard Wix filter will be fine, especially if you're only changing at 5k instead of following the IOLM. Your 6.2L will never know the difference.

Edit - misread your post. If you're going for 15-20k OCIs, Wix XP all the way.

That’s what I’m kind of feeling too. The thought of an extended interval on the filter is cool at all but I don’t feel good about doing that at the expense of filtration. My basic understanding of the xp line is that they can run longer based of less filtration. I could be incorrect and am open to schooling though.

We are only looking at 5k miles not 15-20k. This is as basic and bare bones as you can get a 250, we had to order it built that way. There’s no OLM.

Huh, I guess I read it right the first time. Just about any filter you can screw on there will be good for 5k, I’d go with the standard Wix.

Wow, I didn’t know you could order a super duty without a message center instrument cluster, my ‘19 is a Lariat but even the ‘20s I’ve seen with crank windows, keyed locks and no cruise control had an OLM. Sure wish I could order one that way with a manual transmission!

May I ask, what are you buying at the stations?

I am not a Frantz oil filter salesman, but you might want to check into those if you want clean oil . Although your engines already are going the distance, which says a lot.

I work at one of the grass and bird seed production locations for Pennington Seed. We buy fescue during harvest. Most of the Pennington branded products you’ll see on store shelves come out of this division.

At 5K OCI's, go with tough Baldwin or regular Wix filter and whatever syn-blend or full syn 5W-30 oil that makes you happy.

Thanks, interesting all the things people do to make the world go round. The Frantz does take out the particles the full flow misses, but is like $300. Since engines seem to be going 300k these days due to better fuel burning, better air box filtration, etc maybe it actually makes no difference.

On mine I ran FL820S 1st service and the 2nd I switched to Wix 51372. I will be sticking with the Wix 51372. They are a well built filter with a good Micron rating 21 micron @99% and the XP is a really well built filter with synthetic wire backed media, but the micron rating is not super great 35 micron @99% I believe. Cant go wrong with either.

What does your manual say for oil viscosity? Just curious.

Fram and WIX are my go to brands on just about everything nowadays btw. MC filters seem to allow startup ticks.
