If it was priced like a simple, basic truck i too would like it a lot. But you know that thing is gonna cost a fortune and push a buyer like me into a full size instead.

Unfortunately, the days of the $10,000 Ranger are gone

I believe Toyota is going with drum rear brakes on this new truck, and thats fine since they do what they need to do. As far as the 3.5 V6 being more reliable than another engine like Ecoboost or GM's direct injected small blocks is going to be unknown. Toyota's 3.5 will have the D4S system of direct and indirect injection. The scion FR-S people seemed to have issues with this, not sure if its all improved by now or not.

I have been looking forward to this truck for over 5 years and really expected more.

Total sales not reviewers or internet forum reviewers will make or break this truck.

I remember similar reviews for the current generation Civic which Honda tweaked slightly to pacify and sales never really took a ding.

Its a wonderful truck for countries where American trucks are either not available or the import duties price them around $100k.

But since we live in the US its a horrible old clunky thing that rusts fast and cost a lot. They also still use good old drum brakes, a nice hand me down V6 that loves fuel because its old, and a clunky old 5spd gear box. Throw in a cheap interior, yeah go Toyota! Fan boys will love it, because yeah Toyota!!!

As said above a limited double cab is $38k...with drum brakes. My buddy just ordered a 2015 F150 XLT OTD was $41k, and I can assure you unless you live in a super tight city where parking is at a premium the F150 will be a better truck in every way.

The kicker is the F150 will probably also get better MPG's with its 420hp, because Toyota doesn't invest the money into trucks that Ford does. The V6 in my Ram is a better V6...again no investment, NA is a small market for them.

I've read many sources claiming 17.x to 19.x mpg at 80 for the V8 F150. I didn't research the ecoboost much since i want the V8 5.0

Look at the curb weights, F150 super crew 4x4 is like 4900ish and the equivalent Taco comes in just under 4500. Taco is a few inches narrower for better drag. I don't see official EPA on the taco yet but it seems a 4x4 double cab is coming in at 20 highway vs 21 highway EPA on an F150 V8 4x4. I would suggest they both get pretty much the same mileage in real world use.

*edit* found epa on the taco, its 21 highway for the manual and 23 for the A/T.

Dont take it personal. Toyota is catering to the arrogance, pride, self importance and ego's of the middle class gentry. Owners wake up every morning thinking they can make no bad decision in life. That my friend is $38k versus $25k.

I thought this truck was all new? The sheetmetal from the A pillar back looks identical to the old truck.

Those Toyota dashboards are way too busy for me.

They made it so aftermarket suspension from the old truck fits the new truck. Its more like a mid cycle refresh that you would see a few years into the life cycle. 10 years of selling the same thing and only a modest refresh = huge profits.

Toyota has been pushing it as all new, but it looks more like an update to me. They can probably get away with that for a few more years, but if this really is their idea of "all new," the Tacoma might be going the way of the Ranger. It's definitely not the clean sheet redesign they did in 2005.

I think the '15 looks better inside and out personally. Plus the 4.0 V6 had an awesome oil filter location.

Lost credibility with "clunky 5spd" and 420hp F150.

The New Tacoma is a 6spd both auto or manual and the F150's most powerful engines(3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0 Coyote) are 365hp/420tq and 385hp/387tq.
