2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4WD

Is Toyota factory fill synthetic oil of some type? I kind of wished they kept the V-6 with a hybrid option. How long before TRD has an upgraded turbo, header, and exhaust for these?

FF is 0w20 synthetic.

I'm sure the aftermarket will catch up here soon. There's already a tune that adds close to 40 ft lbs of torque.

Nice Taco! Reminds me that I need to drive my LC more. I bought it two months ago and don't even have 900 miles on it yet. I keep driving the beater Matrix out of habit 🤣

Sooo first design flaw, pretty severe IMO. I do not offroad, or drive gravel roads. This is all from rock salt from the winter.

Taking it in on Monday to see what we can even do at this point. A couple people have gotten this damaged repaired (repainted) under warranty. I fully expect them to tell me to pound sand, but I will escalate it further (nicely, but firmly) to Toyota. I do not want to get dinged like this on a lease return. I'll explain I do plan on getting another Tacoma/Tundra (which is true). We'll see how much of a PITA this is going to be...
Bummer.
I hope that Toyota steps up for you.

So, been over a year and I figure I'd do an update? @meep post on his having some issues made me realize despite being one of the first off the line has been almost flawless.

First order of business the paint chipping issue. Very long story short after much back and fourth it is not covered under warranty. Gonna let that it be at that.

Engine/transmission have been flawless. They did do a relearn and shifting improved. No idea how that came to be. MPG has been in the low 20's now with heavier tires. From what I can gather is the new tires are 12-15lbs heavier each. So, expected.

No issues with technology. Still the annoying glitch connecting wireless Android Auto.

There has been so many sporadic issues with early run trucks, somehow I got a good one. However, while I don't abuse my truck, I use it as needed.

I'd recommend one 😁

Good update! I was glad to go back and see what you did for your new tires. The incident mine had hasn’t repeated, and the descriptions sound identical. Occasional shift slightly out of character but nothing more than that. Mine has the full digital dash and I think i traced it to having it display TPMS. If Tpms is put up on any of the “3 screens,” they all get weird. Take tpms off and it seems to settle down. It still flips “pages” to the next screen a 3-4 times a week but not 3-4 times per day.

You also offered that I should try different octane fuel. Yes, it rewards higher octane. It stays in higher gears and uses torque instead of rpm to move around. There is a very small change in mpg, after going back and forth. 0.1 MPG difference on my end between 87 and 93. It’s been pretty repeatable. Not worth it for gas money but it definitely drives different from throttle response to shifting schedule.

Last summer I ran regular 87 exclusively. I noticed when it was like 90°+ and humid it was way down on power. This year I've been bouncing around 90 octane ethanol free and 93 E10 depending on the station I fill-up. We've had a couple close to 90° days and it feels like it isn't down power like it was on regular. Supposed to be in the mid 90's later on this week and into next so we'll see.

So, against better judgement on getting a first model year on a complete new re-design I went ahead and went with the all new 4th Gen Tacoma. My 2022 TRD with the 6 speed manual was a good truck, but honestly I was getting tired of shifting the thing. Yesterday I took it on its first mini trip that included several towns with many red lights and a couple mountain passes. So that lead to this decision...

So far so good. The 2.4 turbo seems to have plenty of power and the 8 speed automatic is leaps beyond the 6 speed automatic in the 3rd gens. Didn't even hardly downshift on the hills on the state roads I travel. Also from what the truck was saying I got a hair over 26mpg on the way home from the dealer. This was in town and state 45/55mph roads. Truck is equipped with the SR5 Upgrade Package which has the power sliding glass rear window, heated seats/steering wheel, and JBL sound system. The subwoofer does take up some space behind the rear seat.

After a couple Offroads and a Sport thrown in the mix with the way the options are set the SR5 made sense for me. Has plenty of options and I don't offroad so it does just fine.

This model does have the new coil spring rear suspension. I'm not 100% how it handles compared to the 3rd gens as they have the tires jacked up to 45PSI. I'll have to adjust and update.

I did remove that goofy chin spoiler immediately after getting home.

Will it be reliable? Who's to say. I'm sure something will go wrong, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Nice, I'm still rocking my 2022. 36,500 miles on it.

I really like how the previous gen has deeper dish opportunities for the wheels. The 24-25 have extraordinary offsets, forcing the wheels to be flat. @HM12460 has the previous geometry which as more dish!
