2024 Colorado ZR2 first impressions

I got pulled over last week. 66 in a 55. (The speedometer in my old Blazer is 3.5-ish off. Lol)

The guy liked my truck and we talked vehicles a bit. He has a Colorado of this vintage and has had nothing but “computer” issues. I was very disappointed in to hear this. He said it’s gone once the warranty is up.
I wonder what kind of stuff has been going on specifically...

Might be in the market for one of these soon. Glad to hear oil changes are easy.

What oil are you guys using in your 2.7’s?
Any dexos gen 2 5w30 will do. I go back and forth between quaker state (cheap at walmart) and kirkland signature.

I hope yours is more reliable than the ones in our fleet at work. They spend an unbelievable amount of time in the shop for manufacturing defects. Wiring harness, electronics, and random engine shutdowns while driving on the highway.
I may get flamed however, I refer to these as a defective product of Shanghai government motors.
Are you sure you're referring to the new VSS T platform? Or the old GMT? I do this for a living...this is nothing familiar with this new platform. I'm not calling you a liar by no means but if you say your whole fleet is having these issues we would be seeing more of this in the field.

16k mile update...

Not too much to report here, which is a good thing. I've been doing about 4500mile oil changes, give or take, mainly due to weather since I don't have a garage. It was fairly cold in northern Ohio this winter, so the oil changes got done when it was above freezing and there wasn't melting snow in the driveway. I drive about 22k miles per year. I need about 1/2-2/3qt make up oil in that OCI in the 6qt sump.

The cons kind of remain the same. There are many weird climate control noises that eminate from the dash, mainly when it gets shut off or many seconds after the vehicle is shut off. It's just weird more than anything, but everything seems to function ok.

I fluid filmed the frame in October and I hit the leaf springs kind of unintentionally. It seemed to make them creak at slow speeds for a couple months, and surprisingly, reading the Colorado forum, some others noticed that as well. Took about 2500miles for that to go away, maybe a little longer.

In the city, I use the manual shifting of the gears fairly frequently, mainly just to hold gears at speeds. In the 8spd auto, I don't want it trying to go to 5th at 32mph or 6th at 40 for example, just because it feels like it lugs a little bit. But I don't think I've driven a car in 12 years that doesn't try to do that same thing, worst in the 3rd generation Tacoma. I'd rather have it sit at 1800rpm while driving than 1400rpm. Just my preference.

Gas mileage doesn't seem to move much. Just under 19mpg combined. I use the torque curve but don't stomp on it.

It performed flawlessly in snow in 4hi which was used a few times. Definitely a fun truck to drive in winter weather.

Cold weather start ups were quiet. I drive it very easy until the oil hits temp.

Engine/transmission combo still feels like a nice love connection. Despite the aforementioned very slight want to lug at certain speeds and light throttle, it's very responsive overall and confidently and fairly effortlessly does what I ask it to do.

I towed the boat a couple more times (~4200lbs) and had zero issues or want for a full size. Also have done several multi hour road trips, and I love it as a road trip vehicle.

Oh...one last thing. I wouldn't call it a gremlin, but every so often, I get a double chime of the same note, but I have no clue what it's for. It seems random, but has only happened in cold weather. But not often by any means. I've heard it maybe a dozen times. There's no alerts on the infotainment system, none on the dashboard, my app says there is nothing of note, the tire pressure is good, there's no gas cap, seat belt is fastened, tailgate is secure, doors shut tight, all other stuff like air filter life etc etc is fine. Dealer had no clue, but again, in the forums, a few other people have noticed it as well but have no idea.

Anyways, still a 9 out of 10 for me. VERY happy with this truck. Feels so dang solid.
