2016 Tacoma: You had 10 years to design this?

I am underwhelmed by this new truck. They didn't even offer a new 4 cylinder engine and the new V6 isn't even rated that high in MPG. If you already have a 2015 or older Tacoma what reason would you have to upgrade?

If you wanted to buy a new midsize truck why would you not be on a Chevy or GMC lot?

I do like the style, other than the giant front grill. I hate the big grill trend that every truck just has to have or it is wimpy by default.

It will still sell very well and Toyota will get close to sticker for years on them. Maybe it will push GM to put more incentives on the Colorado.

Those new Colorados/Canyons are really nice trucks. I feel like they had to do something to compete with the Toyotas. I feel like vehicle companies have noplace else to go but down when they are on top. I am sure if they notice a drop in the market a refresh wont be too far behind.

I'm disappointed. New turbocharged four cylinder gasoline and diesel engines would have been nice. A single cab/turbodiesel/6MT/4x4 truck would have been very nice.

Or, just sell the Hilux here. We seem to get second-class vehicle options.

I may test drive the diesel GMC Canyon.

why are you upgrading your tacoma, they last forever right?

on that note, it never has been a serious truck, go ahead and buy one and give toyota tens of thousands of profit.

"More reviews will come out, and truck fans will take to the internet complaining how the 2016 Tacoma’s interior should be nicer or the gas mileage should be better. Yet anyone who is actually in the market for one will eventually stroll on in to their local Toyota store and drive home with a new Tacoma.

The sad part about all this is there was probably quite a few very talented and enthusiastic Tacoma engineers with big plans on how to make the 2016 model the best ever. There was probably some super awesome trail running version with monster tires, crazy suspension travel and all the auxiliary lights you can dream of.

Then a Toyota bean counter showed up to the pitch meeting and said, “These are great ideas ladies and gentleman, but we don’t need to make the 2016 Tacoma that good...we just need to make it good enough.”

That is what loyalty buys you."

If it was priced like a simple, basic truck i too would like it a lot. But you know that thing is gonna cost a fortune and push a buyer like me into a full size instead.

When did circular air vents become a thing? How did bus/airplane overhead air vent outlets look so cool? It looks like a cheap car thing.

Unfortunately, things like five different variations on the trapezoidal grill and disjointed front styling seems to be the trend. May it only last a couple model years...

It will sell well on reputation.

Toyota is slow to update.

Many ugly cars being sold today.

Nice truck and a lasting truck are two different things. I will take any Tacoma over GMC/Chevy.

3.5L is awesome in a Camry/Avalon/Rav4/Highlander.... It will serve well in the Tacoma even though I was hoping for the 4.6L, especially with the added weight.

4x4 Limited Double Cab $38,720 and i doubt you are getting much off MSRP for at least the first year.

Compare that to an F150 Lariat 4x4 super crew sticker of about 48k and negotiable discounts of at least 10k you have to really love that Tacoma.

Hey thats only $800 a month for 5 years with a good interest rate. Gotta impress the neighbors.

Let's see which engines are still on the road in 8 years... the 3.5L V6 Atkinson cycle in the Tacoma or a twin turbo DI Ecoboost (V8 not included in this argument). I think the DI discussion is going to be very interesting in 5 years.

I'll take the Tacoma over an F-150 if the difference in size doesn't matter.

I dont think the Hilux would be any better than the Tacoma. In my opinion, the exterior is uglier, the interior is even more basic than the Tacoma and the engine choice is the worst ever. The most common engine choice is a diesel powerplant that is seriously unrefined and quite underpowered IMO.
Its very loud, vibrates a lot and is prone to intake clogging up due to the EGR system in countries where there are emission laws and require an EGR system to reduce emissions. (Unless you fit a catch can)
People still buy them because they are known for their dependability. (Reliable and durable)
However they just launched a new generation Hilux with an updated diesel powertrain (It was about time, the previous powertrain setup was way past its due date) so lets see if its any good.
