If i had a Ecoboost V6 i'd prooooobably run 0W-40 or 5W-40 , there's a guy on here who has been using M1 0W-40 in his 3.5 Ecoboost i think and his engine runs great on it, i think he also did a UOA on it and found it to be doing great.
The Ecoboost is tough on its oil so i'd be running a A3/B4 0W-40 / 5W-40 just to be on the safe side of things and change the oil at the recomended intervals.

Brand new $40,000 truck. I am NOT changing the oil viscosity on a brand new complex twin turbo engine. I do not claim to be smarter than Ford engineers.

On my lawn equipment/generator, I absolutely run Rotella 15W40.

No one really is claiming to be smarter than the engineers. The fallacy in your comment is assuming the engineers get the final say on what gets recommended by the non-engineer OEM in their manuals. You have to always keep in mind that the oil the OEM uses to get it's fuel economy numbers and emissions testing with the EPA is the grade of oil that they are required to recommend to the consumer. It is one thing to get thru a short testing, it is quite another to go 100,000 miles out here in the real world.

This thing rarely even becomes an issue or even debated as it pertains to heavier, non CAFE type of vehicles and those OEM oil grade recommendations. Primarily for the reasons I stated. The engineers with these larger offerings actually get more of the final say in what gets recommended.

Getting down to the pointy end now.

The way I see it is that Castrol has proven they know how to make a great oil that works well in the tough EcoBoost engine, we can seen this in the great UOAs many people are getting with semi-synthetic Magnatec 5W30 in the 3.5L twin turbo.

However Castrol claims their very best oil is the full synthetic Edge. If you trust them to make a great semi-synthetic (and I do), why not trust them to make an even better full synthetic (Edge 5W30).

Yes it does. I was pleasantly surprised, driving one for the better part of a month as a rental. While the G37 isn't exactly an economy vehicle, I was expecting fuel economy disasters with the F-150. Most of my mileage was freeway, and I was very pleasantly surprised.

Recall most marketed oils as synthetic are not SYNTHETIC.

This This & This-----ARCO has hit the ball out of the park with this recommendation. MB 229.5 rated oils are also A3/B3 or A3/B4 rated. FWIW I'd add using an A3/B3 or A3/A4 SN rated oil in 5-30 grade will keep you within warranty requirements, and will keep the engine protected. Examples of these oils are Pentosin HP 5-30 and Castrol Edge 5-30 (in A3/B3 [Euro] form if you can find it). They are classified as 'European' oils, and many are also SN rated
