2014 Ram 1500, Diesel!

Interesting but I wonder how well they will sell. Regular gas is $3.75 as of today. Diesel is $4.15. I can get an Ecoboost F150 that has similar numbers and returns 20 MPG and runs on regular. Or I could get this and get marginally better MPG, pay more for the Diesel, and pay more at the pump....

Congrats to them for bringing it but it will be interesting to see if people buy it.

VM Motori is 50% owned by Fiat, the other 50%?... GM. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same engine end up in a Silverado.

So how many millons of these cp4 pumps has Bosch built? How many of those failed? And is their technology static or do they improve upon the design? I suppose by now the pumps should be good despite the drivel that floats around on the web...

The F150's with the Ecoboost are being killed for NOT returning the MPG #'s claimed. So many posts out there about not even coming close to that 22 MPG highway #. Not trashing them or anything as most seem to like them overall but MPG does not appear to be as claimed for lots of owners. Biggest complaint I have seen about the EB V6.

Even if they all did see the claimed MPG figures( 16/22 is best I see on Ford's site for a 2WD F150 ), or slightly better, a diesel 1/2 ton would be expected to deliver the ecoboosts's highway MPG in the city. Big difference.

A reasonable average MPG to expect from an ecoboost powered F150 w/ a 16/22 rating would be about 18-19 MPG on average for mixed driving. A diesel 1/2 ton should be in the low to mid 20's for a mixed MPG average. If it is not then it would not be worth the expense of buying one IMO.

Let the early adopters test it out. I'll watch.

Simplicity and fuel mileage. With all of the emissions controls they're forcing on the diesels ... they don't even get great mileage!

To me, a diesel is something simple, mechanical that will run on anything from used motor oil to jet fuel, get good fuel mileage and run forever.

Ford seems to have been hit hardest, but their new diesels are getting WORSE mileage than the gas jobs. When they go off in their "regen" cycles to "burnoff" (no idea what they're burning off) they get 8-9 MPG ... At an $8000 premium.

There's no ROI on them. Especially with the power and fuel economy numbers we're pushing out of gas engines today.

Makes sense. I believe that the 2.0L diesel engine in the Cruze TD is a VM Motori unit.

Enough that the NH TSA is investigating!

I don't know what the EB's MPG is getting in the trucks - I'd assume it's similar to my 19-22 in the SHO (which weighs as much as an F150!). I don't complain as I keep my foot in the boost.

That being said, Ram is not mentioning MPG figures, but my guess is they will be around the EB's MPG. The closest thing with a 3.0 V6 Diesel in a large vehicle is the Sprinter and according to Fuelly and a quick web search they get 18-23.

It will be interesting, especially if the MPG is roughly the same as the large gas engine. And if the cost is similar to the $4k it is in the Jeep.

I searched the site to see that investigation and could not find it. Do you have a link?

Yes, a few, in fact:

It started with VW, and has since expanded to GM, Ford, BMW, and Porsche.
