And there's the Infiniti JX , which is a plusher version of the Pathfinder. I like the looks of the Infiniti more. The front end looks less gaudy and the whole car just flows.

I saw a JX on I-95 today. VERY smart-looking car in my opinion.
Looks are subjective...it's not bad looking...but my opinion means little in this regard.
What's significant is the change to unibody construction, and loss of ground clearance. Another ute designed for pavement...a tall station wagon, in other words...a crossover vehicle...

I think that's actually what most of US does want. How many SUV buyers take them off road? Most buy them for a somewhat taller seating position and the ability to run an occasional curb at the mall parking lot. A jacked up station wagon would have worked, which is what this Pathfinder and many other SUVs/CUVs really are.

Most buy them for a somewhat taller seating position and the ability to run an occasional curb at the mall parking lot. I used to own a 98' Pathfinder, decent little truck. Obviously, the mpg wasn't good at all, but i didn't care. I bought an SUV for a reason, and I knew the mpg I was going to get and was fine with it. I mainly bought it as a winter beater, but the trans. went out about a year later. What a shame, it was in great shape, but it wasn't worth putting a trans. in it.

That's what most of America needs. Something to get from point A to point B. And does the above. Maybe if cars were a bit less bling, and more boring, we'd be less tempted to trade out of them for the latest and greatest.

And that's what I love about many of them: you nearly get the fuel economy of a station wagon, and generally have more cargo area in the back due to the taller roof and generally have a more comfortable and upright seating position than in a true sedan/wagon.

Actually, the 2nd generation was unibody. Third generation went back to truck based, and now they are back to unibody again.
