The A/C works great, you're in the area, so you know about the heat here right now.

I don't know about the heat, but you can tell all you need to know about the humidity by the puddle under it in your picture....

I know your area well, got friends and family around Baton Rouge and New Orleans, and I work occasionally not far from Slidell.

Naw, where you come up with that same engine idea? Different splay, 90 v. 60 deg, different head design: finger follower v. S.U.B., etc. Coyote v. Cyclone.

What was changed in the engine and gear/trans that allows such a large jump?

The same with the new Camaro it's V6 is hitting the 30mpg mark this year too, correct?

I guess I stopped reading at "same displacement per cylinder". They were designed at the same time to be made on the same production line, so while the V6 doesn't get the marketing fanfare of the V8, it's a very well done design.

Drove a 2012 fastback today . . .

It was silver with a black cloth interior. A/C was fantastic, especially from the large round dash vents, and I liked the cool blue dash readout. A short, brutal car by comparison with my Park Avenue -- and I don't mean unrefined, just powerful. It rode well, and was better on the boulevard and the highway than at very low speed in the dealer's lot; the transmission seemed to be confused about what gear it was supposed to be in, though that could have been me getting used to the pedal and how much gas I needed to give it. Neat growl from the engine bay when I heeled the pedal to merge in a straight line onto the Interstate.

There's not enough room for me to load two cat carriers for vet trips or evacuations, so if I bought one it'd have to be a second car. Maybe in a few years, when the 2012s are on the used market . . .

They have twin turbo kits for those things that will make them scream...IMHO the Mustang is just calling for the Ecoboost V6 they put in the trucks!

Impressive mileage. Which differential ratio?

I'm very impressed with the 2012 Mustang. I've heard the "standard" differential ratio for the V6 is mileage friendly but not too good for acceleration. Are you happy with the acceleration?

I get around 34 MPG (Imperial gallons) which converts to about 27 MPG US with the BMW and around 37 MPG ((Imperial gallons) or about 30 MPG US with the Honda on mostly highway, mixed trips. I've done a bit better with both but those are pretty typical numbers.

That is one very nice ride.....gorgeous, plenty of zip when you need it, awesome MPG, and best of all a six speed manual. Congratulations on an excellent choice.

Ecotourist.....the gear ratio is 2.73, which nets about 1700 rpm at 70mph. The performance is better than the Honda, engine pulls strong low and high. Have not wound it up to redline yet(7000rpm),but have been to 6,000 a couple times. It reminds me of the Honda though in that it is pulling stronger the higher you go, like the VTEC.

I have tracked this same commute my wife does for a couple years(24,000mi) in the Honda and it would always average right at 30MPG. I imagine the 6/6 combination in your Honda would be on a par as far as performance.

My Honda is the 4 dr sedan. Available one year only (2007) with the V6 6MT. I suspect it's a little heavier than the coupe.

The new Mustang is gorgeous. I think I'd be inclined to get the GT but the combination of price, performance and mileage from the V6 makes for a tempting package.

The only local dealer I've checked with won't let anyone test drive a new GT. I guess I can understand - who wants a 'new' car somebody else has been rodding around in.

I had a '65 Comet with a 2 barrel 289 V8 3MT back in the day. It had a 3.00 differential. Similar powertrain to some of the tamer Mustangs of the era. I expect your V6 Mustang would run circles around it.
