2012 Nissan Versa redesign and only 1.6 ltr. ...

I'm seriously thinking about getting one if they don't turn out to be complete POS's after a year. The price with all the standard options is amazing.

We looked at a 2010 Versa in a showroom . Liked it . Plenty of head / leg room . The oil filter was in a poor spot . Hopefully they changed it .

Only a BITOGer would check for ease of vehicle maintenance!

We have one or two on the lot. They look ok. From what I've read, they redesigned the 1.6 engine. It has some new things like oil jets on the pistons. Hopefully this would help with the longevity of the engine. I've seen way too many Versa needing engines with less than 100k. Seems like the oil rings get stuck, or worn and the engines run out of compression. Time will tell if this new little guy is any better than the last.

1.6L engin is good if they can get economy up to 40. Nobody needs a huge amout of HP in an econobox, and the way austerity is going to have to hit us soon, nobody will hopefully want it.

I never have liked the versa, which Ive driven a ton of times as rentals, as the footwell is not useful or comfortable for someone with long legs.

Hopefully a redesign makes that better.

It's only rated 36 highway with the 5 speed manual. And it weighs just 2350 lbs. WTH??? It should get 40 MINIMUM.

Well to be fair Nissan isnt well known for having ground breaking economy cars. Its not a honda in the early 90's.

True, and that's why I'm checking Amsoil's site for oil needs for my next car...

they couldn't get the versa right? just like the 1.8L in the sentra in the early 2000's.

36 MPG highway? Not good enough...

I bet millions of people will disagree with that sentiment and buy these things because they're new, and have a warranty. Plus going from a 17 MPG truck to a 33-36 MPG Versa is a lot of gas savings.

I had a 93 Sentra with a 1.6 motor. It was a durable engine and fun to drive. Seems like Nissan is going to need to prove themselves with this new 1.6 motor.

I know 36 is mind blowing for the truck driving crowd but if you consider the mpg within its class its just average. Considering the Aveo, Mazda 2, Fit are 35mpg, Yaris at 36, Fiesta at 38, and the awesome Accent at 40 its not so great anymore. I really think the only thing this Versa has going for it is the standard features that come with its price. Amazingly cheap! Other than that its just another econobox. The last 3 tanks with my del sol Ive averaged 48mpg. Puts todays econobox's to shame and for some reason cars like it are not made anymore. Dont even mention the Miata, that car's gas mileage has always kinda sucked.

What was your Del Sols mileage rating when new? Way less then what you're getting. So who's to say with careful driving, the Versa couldn't get better then it's rating?

True, it's still average for its class. I don't care for Nissans in general, as the ones owned by friends have always had expensive problems that re-occur. Me and Nissan seats just don't get along, also. Every ride I've taken in a Nissan (old Altima, new Murano, older Sentra) has been uncomfortable.

That's right. Even the best rated Del Sol in 1995 was 37 mpg highway, bang-on with a new Versa at 36 mpg. If yaris0128 is beating the EPA rating by 30% in a '95 Del Sol, he or she could likely assume to get 25-30% better in any vehicle, a new Versa included.

The 1991-1994 generation Sentras were great cars, and so were earlier Sentras, but in 1995, the Sentra became terrible.

My dad's 1993 Sentra was one of his favorite cars. He had to sell it because his job required a larger car with 4 doors.
