That's right. Even the best rated Del Sol in 1995 was 37 mpg highway, bang-on with a new Versa at 36 mpg. If yaris0128 is beating the EPA rating by 30% in a '95 Del Sol, he or she could likely assume to get 25-30% better in any vehicle, a new Versa included.
37 is the "updated" EPA ratings. Its window sticker originally said 41. I was able to do that without "trying" to get good mileage. Now when I drive it like I want to save some money I can get 48 or better. I do the same thing with my yaris and I can only get 40. A small but good 4mpg increase.

Right, 37 is the updated rating today (which is an estimated value), so we can do exactly what we're doing: comparing it to new vehicles rated since the 2008 model year.

Your Del Sol can also be a particularly thrifty example. Even two examples of the same vehicle can be driven by the same person and achieve different numbers. It's possible that your Del Sol is on the thrifty side of the range for that car and your Yaris is on the thirsty side of the range for that car, making a difference seem more dramatic.

I'm really curious about how this car will do.

I know it's a sub-compact sedan, but it 'looks' like too large a car for just a 1.6L engine.

I'm wondering if this engine will suffer from poor FE and perhaps oil-burning from having to work really hard.

I like hyundais but is there an elantra out there getting the sticker mpg? I mean its not like equinoxgate and their WAY low highway mpg(vs sticker) but Ive seen some people at low 30's that seems a long way from 40mpg, also the new elantras sheet metal is so thin it gets dents from gusts of air practically.

I'm not saying you should be able to flog it and get 40..
but if you drive it sensible you should get NEAR the highway rating.

I do love the new accents they are SOOO much better than the previous model accent its not funny.

Time will tell if the accent gets 40.. i bet it does.

The elantra doesnt even have GDI and they claim 40, the accent with alot more technology in the engine etc should hit 40's easy.

Translation I hope its a true 40mpg and if so my gf will prob trade her 2010 in on one.. she has the biggest pos lemon accent.. so far 3 headlights and 3 4way blinker switches.. 2 wheel bearings...

yaris will be on her list too.. along with the versa.

I recently purchased another new Maxima and while waiting I checked out the new Versa. It has a ridiculous amount of rear seat space and the styling was rather nice. It's actually much more appealing than the Sentra which is up for a redesign in 2013.

I bought a used 1996 Sentra GXE automatic and drove it for about a year and a half. The car was great...very reliable and fuel efficient. Reasonably peppy too. Problem was the dents...very thin sheet metal...dented almost as badly as my '91 Festiva. I paid a couple hundred bucks having a bunch of them pulled out by a dent "fixer" and it looked somewhat better. What's with Nissan engine problems and those CVT issues?...I'd be inclined to look at another auto maker until they get their act together.

I didn't like it from the pictures, but it's kind of cute in person. My mom is looking for a daily driver and this is one of the few reasonably priced compacts around. Anyone have one and willing to share your experience? How durable is the CVT?

Have to take a look at the Accent first though.

I bet millions of people will disagree with that sentiment and buy these things because they're new, and have a warranty. Plus going from a 17 MPG truck to a 33-36 MPG Versa is a lot of gas savings.
I know 36 is mind blowing for the truck driving crowd but if you consider the mpg within its class its just average. Considering the Aveo, Mazda 2, Fit are 35mpg, Yaris at 36, Fiesta at 38, and the awesome Accent at 40 its not so great anymore. I really think the only thing this Versa has going for it is the standard features that come with its price. Amazingly cheap! Other than that its just another econobox. The last 3 tanks with my del sol Ive averaged 48mpg. Puts todays econobox's to shame and for some reason cars like it are not made anymore. Dont even mention the Miata, that car's gas mileage has always kinda sucked.

What relation does the Miata have to the content of your post? It's NOT an 'econobox' at all. It's leaps and bounds WAY ahead of the others you've mentioned in handling and enjoyability (including the old Del Sol). Plus....for the wonderful balance of weight, handling, and power, the Miata does just fine in the mpg department. Easily over 30 on most trips and only slightly less about town (I know....I had one).

Wait, the curb weight is 2350lbs - thats light. I thought we were led to believe these weights could no longer be achieved because of modern safety standards/crash tests.
