Noob here.
I have a 2012 F250 with the 6.2L gasoline engine.
The oil cap AND the manual says that the recommended oil for this engine is 5W-20.

A few years ago, I had a printout from Ford, of the types and amounts of oil for this particular engine...something like this:
https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/quickref/oilchartUS.pdf that showed 5W-30 could also be used in this engine. Unfortunately, I trashed it a while ago while clearing out some "old" papers...

Does anyone know where I might find this similar chart, but for the earlier models...or does Ford just supersede these documents as time goes by?

If it makes you feel any better about using a 30 grade I found this in the Mexico version of the 2012 Superduty gasoline engine owners’ manual. They weren’t obligated to recommend the thinnest possible oils for fuel economy in Mexico like CAFE makes them do in the US. The recommendations you’ll probably get here are Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30, Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30. I’m using Valvoline Restore and Protect with good results.

I run a 2015 F350 with 6.2L. 5w30 is what I run- I tow with this truck. I purchased a massive amount of Shell truck and suv 5w30 some years ago on a deep clearance ($1 per quart IIRC), and that is what I have been using. Unlike many others, I change the oil on all my vehicles at 3k miles.
 
Currently running HPL HDMO CC 5w-40 in my 2014 6.2 that "specs" 5w-20. As someone previously stated, Ford changed spec to 5w-30 around 2015-2016 with no changes to the engine.

I'd have no issue running a good 5w-30 but am trying to consolidate into one oil for a couple vehicles as well as my standby generator & yard equipment so it's getting the above 5w-40.

I have a 2011 Ford F-250 with the 6.2L gas engine, it has 172K on it and does not leak, burn or loose oil between 4-5K OCI's. Owner's manual says 5W-20, I've only used Pennzoil Ultra HM in it for the last 50K, towing my toy hauler to snow plowing. Recently I was given several new 5q jugs of 5w30 Castrol Edge HM synthetic. I was wondering if I will have any negative issues by switching over to the 5w30?

Thread '5W20 or 5W30 Another Ford question'

I have a Ford 3.5 Duratech, 5w20 synthetic blend is recommended. I recently had some work done. By someone I know. He knows I do all my own basic maintenance and he recommended I use 5w30 instead of 5W20, on my next oil change He recommends 5w30 on all vehicles over 100k. I know it's all part of cafe, I also know in different countries they recommend different weights.

I want to know what you guys recommend?

Thread 'F250 7.3 Gasser Oil Dilemma'

I have a new 2020 Ford F-250 with the new 7.3 liter gas engine. The owner’s manual recommends the Motor Craft synthetic blend. The ONLY other option is for extreme cold environments. It does not give any full synthetic option at all.

I’m interested in buying a maintenance plan and I have two option for oil: Synthetic blend or full synthetic. The full synthetic option is about 600 more for 8 years/100k miles with the service being done every 5k miles.

I don’t know why Ford doesn’t lost a full synthetic option for the 7.3 gas, or the 6.2 gas for that matter. Could there be a valid...

I have a 2012 Ford Super Duty 6.2L V8 gas motor truck. I’ve been putting in 5W-20 synthetic blend Motorcraft engine oil since I’ve owned it the past year or two.

It’s due for an oil change again soon, I’m just deciding what to go with.

From posts I’ve heard on here that Motorcraft oil is very good for the money. Also it seems people like the Quaker State Ultimate Durability full synthetic oil as well as its a decent oil for the price as well so I am also considering switching to that because I generally like to use full synthetic.

My main concern is that I see the newer Super Duties...

I have had my 2014 Ford Raptor with the Boss 6.2 since approx 68k miles. I ran Mobil 1 5w-20 when I first got it about 7 years ago but noticed I got considerably worse MPG as well as the engine idle wasn't as smooth so I swapped to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 which I could find more easily in the area I lived in at the time. While running Pennzoil Platinum I got about the same MPG and idle was smoother. I moved a handful of years ago and took the plunge to Amsoil 5w-20. Interesting... For 2016 Ford recommends 5w30 for all gas engines in the superduty. The 6.2L V8 and 6.8L V10. Up until this year they have been recommending 5w-20 for both engines... So why the change after multiple years of both engines on 5w-20?

Thread 'Running 5W-50 in Ford engines instead of 5W-20 / 5W-30?'

The Ford GT (supercar) and a few of Ford's other performance vehicles are specified to use 5W-50 synthetic (The GT is specified to use Castrol Edge Supercar 5W-50 specifically in the owner's manual, but it meets a Ford specification). That got me thinking, so I looked up the VVT solenoids from the GT and they are common with Ford's other engines (2.3L, 3.5L, 5.0L, etc...) It seems to me that mechanically speaking, the 5W-50 synthetic would run in the majority of Ford's engine lineup. I remember Ford Australia's modular V8s (which were made in the US) being specified to use a 5W-50...

Hey guys I've been in the forum talking about different oils. I pull on average 15,000-19,000 the truck calls for 5w-20 would running full synthetic rotella t6 5w-40 hurt anything or would it be better than castrol edge syntech 5w-20?

Thread '2008 f250 oil recommendations'

I just purchased my inlaws house, and included in the sale was a 2008 f250 with a 5.4 in it. They heat the house with wood, and this was there haul vehicle for firewood.

Originally it was owned by the DOT, then was purchased by the inlaws. Currently has just shy of 200,000 miles on it. Seems to be in pretty good shape, runs well, but it's led a hard life. I plan on continuing to use it to haul wood, will not be used for much else, and am trying to maintain it as well as I can. It will be operated in Northern Ohio, both in summer and winter.

Ford calls for 5w-20. Did a search on this...

Thread 'Ford 6.2L and oil grades'

My friend has a small 2-truck fleet of 2012 F250s with the 6.2L. Well in the summer both got new batteries on the same day, and got oil changes on the same day. The only difference is the oil grade. Even the oil filter was the same Motorcraft. First truck got a dose of Rotella T6 0w40, and the second truck received Rotella 15w40. No big difference in summer, except slightly worse fuel economy on the 15w40 Rotella. But yesterday he had the first 50°F start on both trucks with those oils, and that is where we really saw the difference... Not even close to freezing, but the 15w40 struggled...

Thread '2011 Ford F350 Super Duty 6.2L'

A buddy of mine just bought a Ford F350 Super Duty with the 6.2L, this is the gas engine.

The owners manual says 5W20 Motorcraft Synthetic Blend, 7500 miles, severe use 5000 miles, he just can't grasp the use of 5W20 for this heavy duty truck and the interval. Heck, he just can't grasp 5W20 at all!

Just goes to show how good the 20 weight must be, and the Motorcraft SynBlend, Ford is confident.

Hey guys new to the ford lots of useful information on here I'm a big fan. So here is what I've got, I've always ran diesel pickups I've had 3 7.3's,4 6.0's, and 2 6.7's, always had good luck and I drive a lot close 2 200,000 miles every 2 years, Whats the best oil to run in this 6.2 to achieve 200,000 miles I'm a certified preowned car dealer and I deliver vehicles to clients as well as I pick up vehicles at dealerships, generally i tow anywhere from 11,000 to 19,000 miles so the truck will get pushed to its limits at times. Thanks for all the helpful advise Colton.
