Hey guys I've been in the forum talking about different oils. I pull on average 15,000-19,000 the truck calls for 5w-20 would running full synthetic rotella t6 5w-40 hurt anything or would it be better than castrol edge syntech 5w-20?

I've ran it in my diesels for ever and have had minimal issues just though I'd ask. I've had people ask me why
I m not running and I guess it's because the truck doesn't call for 5w-40

Agreed. All the 5w40 is gonna do is lower your MPG and I assume that 6.2 is a thirsty thing already. Now that's not to say in a pinch it wouldn't work but overall it's unnecessary. If Ford designed it and calls for 5w20 rest assured they know it's gonna work just fine with that grade of oil.

Run Amsoil 5w20, change once a year or every 25,000 miles and sleep well.

That's the best reason to give them. Lol.

Yeah it's thirsty unloaded, it's really thirsty with 5w-20. I guess I'll stay with 5w-20 Castro syntech and change it every 3,000 it's driven [censored] hard. Also about brake fluid and power steering fluid how office should I change those 2?

I wouldn't change it every 3K, I'd go by the OLM and do some used oil analysis to see exactly where you are and adjust your OCI accordingly if you're planning on keeping this truck for the long run.

Brake fluid: Every 2-3 years. PS: Not too sure. I'd say every 5 years or do the ol' turkey baster method and just take what you can out of the reservoir each OCI and replace with fresh. That should keep enough new fluid in it that the fluid will stay plenty robust.

I generally run diesels 150,000 miles Im a certified pre owned car dealer and haul vehicles from auctions. I also deliver vehicles to clients. I'd like to achieve 200,000 out of this gas motor and Id be happy

It wouldn't be the end of the world to go with a heavier oil when towing heavy in warmer temperatures. That said, I wouldn't go higher than a 30wt unless you're trying to use a single oil in your fleet, and other vehicles demand a 40wt.

I'd consider something like the rotella 10w30 or Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30 in the summer, but I agree to go with the olm, or at least use a used oil analysis and verify 6-mo OCIs. 6 months on a hd 10w30 and 6 mo on a good 0w-20 like Mobil 1 Extended Performance might be a good set.

But in reality it isn't needed. It's only for peace of mind if you're so inclined, or if you do indeed see consumption.

Brake fluid Id do every 24 mo since you're towing heavy, and PSF Id consider doing every 3/36 or 4/48 personally.

Run 5w20 grade, Amsoil Signature series 5w20 is a great oil. Use a high quality filter also, Fram Ultra or Amsoil EAO.

If you really want to protect your investment, purchase a bypass oil filter, single bypass remote, or dual remote (bypass & fullflow).

3k miles OCI? You can save some cash and go with Motocraft semi-synthetic 5w-20. Unless the vehicle calls for a full synthetic, or the OLM says to change it sooner than 3k miles, the Motorcraft oil will protect your engine just fine for 3k miles.

How many miles on this truck?

Do a couple short OCI, IMO, 1000 mi each for a clean flushed break-in. Start increasing from there, hit 5k miles next, and so on.

keep using your Castrol Syntec 5w20 according to the OLM in the truck. it accounts for the trucks usage. It will account for short tripps, highway trips and when the engine is running hard towing. No special care is needed to get that truck to 200k+ miles. just keep doing what your doing and follow the oil life monitor.

Mobil 1 0W-40 with a Motorcraft filter. UOA should show 10-12k OCI. I would skip the 20-grades for your application. I think a lot of guys here do not understand how much weight you are towing.

It really grinds my gears when people say this. Do you want an engine to limp to 200k+? Or do you want it to the engine to be as healthy, clean and powerful as when you first bought the vehicle? Any vehicle can last 200k with mediocre maintenance, but I would not want that vehicle after you resale it.

+1 Towing 15,000+ pounds, I'd be using Mobil 1 15W-50. Let the Ford Focus guys have their 20 wt.
