I drive about 20k miles each year with average trips of 40 miles commute one way. My Fit has oil monitor meter which takes speed and rpm into consideration. I have been changing oil when the reading gets to 20%, roughly 8.5k miles on 0W20 M1. However, Wally EP is only 2.50 dollars more so I snapped up a jug for next month change. Should I continue with 8.5k change or just let it run to 12k or even 13k. I am very easy on the gas paddle, getting 41 mpg in summer and 34 mpg in winter. This is VA so temperature is relevant.

By the way, I'll never go back to dino juice as the added protection is great. My 2002 Accord has 150k miles without any problem and sounds perfect even though my wife drives it.

Since you can easly do 10-12K with M1 0-20, I would think 10-15 K with EP would give your engine a very long life.

Aren't we suppose to Chang at 15%? I change it at work since I can rent a bay to look things over. Letting it drain for 30 minutes also help getting as much old oil out. I just bought a magnetic drain plug for the next drain.

I can't find it here at Wally, which is 12 dollars cheaper than AZ and AAP. I am so easy on the gas that 0W doesn't give me much more fuel economy and the car parks in garage so I don't have extreme condition to worry about. It had been cold lately but the temperature is still in the high 20 mostly when I leave work so 5W shouldn't hurt. But I would take 0W EP if I see it though.

I want to time it so I can do a change in winter and summer, ensuring that fresh oil is in place for the extreme temperature variant. Since I need the Accord to last 2 more years for my wife's 50 miles commute each way, I may start driving this on weekend. I hate driving new car around town or any where except to work as I don't want dings or scratches. The Accord got plenty of dings and scratches from my wife's college commute before she got this job so we're been using for weekend since that is easy on my mind.

With the easy highway mileage you should have no issues taking the regular Mobil 1 down to 0% OLM. The EP will make it further, but you might want to UOA with TBN around 13k if you follow mileage.

I agree with 6 months OCI, especially with 20k miles yearly mileage and easy highway drive.

If your local WM doesn't have EP 0W20 I would stay with M1 or PP 0W20.

How did you plan on going to 12k? resetting when it got to 15%? Or ignoring OLM altogether?

You can if you want, but the 15% more or less serves as a reminder that it's time to change the oil soon. You can run it down to 0% and it would be fine. I like your idea of draining it for an extended period of time to get as much oil out as possible.

I'd say at 40 miles per day, just follow the OLM.

It's 40 miles in the morning, 40 miles in the evening, and may be 2 or 3 4-mile trip during the day to get lunch or go to test site. All are easy miles based upon the way I drive. I actually count to 10 after starting car before shifting out of park to drive off. There is a Stop sign 200 yards fro the driveway to give me another 5-15 seconds to warm it up some more. My driving helps beat the poor fuel economy set by EPA; 41 mpg in summer and 34 mpg in winter.
