The seller may have started the car cold and shut if off right away. Sometimes if too much fuel gets in the cylinders it could make a puff of blue smoke come out the exhaust. I have seen this on cars and trucks before and it will not do it on every startup. If you are really serious about the car start it up again cold and see if the car puffs out blue smoke again. If it does, tell the seller and see if you can negotiate a discount to fix it after the purchase.

OK, I've moved on. As far as abuse, no way. The owner was an old handicapped person who's had his license yanked due to dementia; his SIL is selling it. It was dealer maintained, the guy had money to throw away on over maintenance - we here all know the type. Pity because it is in absolutely showroom condition and what's especially painful as far as moving on is that it had never seen a winter with not a bit of rust underneath (from FL).

^ this, and if it's parked far from level they will puff.

My Colorado did one of those puffs - just like the OP's vehicle inside this thread did it. When a vehicle sits for weeks, a blip on it's engine radar can occur. Has nothing to do with any engine damage. Most likely a one-time occurence that won;t puff if used regularly.

My Colorado puff after sitting for weeks..... That was seven years and 100,000 miles ago and hasn't done it since.
This Toyota may be worth more than 10.7K. I'm on track for another 200K after that single puff. I'm still waiting for that 2nd puff seven years later.
