She still look beautiful, thanks for the pics!

I bought a brand new '05 Corolla LE a month after my daughter was born and I told the wife that when our daughter turns 18, this will be her car to drive, she replied with a "it'll never last that long." Now, 8 yrs later, with regular PM that I do myself, she's beginning to "eat her words" because the corolla still drives like it did when we drove it off the lot.

I'm plan on keeping this vehicle until it can run no more, barring any wrecks. It's only got about 85k miles on it so I know it'll be good for years to come.

I actually had to go back to find it...

164 HP was with the newer testing method. It was listed at 170 before. The peak HP an TQ are at lower rpm than the GTS which reduced the HP some
The gas cap tank say "Select Premium Unleaded Only," in the manual for optimum engine performance. The compression ratio is 11.5:1. I'm sure it would run fine on regular but I just always used what it said.

Was that the only year they used the high performance engine in the Corolla sedan? You should have posted the picture with the 8200 rpm redline! I did not know Corolla were offered with that engine.

This was for 2005-2006 years. It's the 2zz-ge engine developed with Yamaha. The head actually says Yamaha on the side. I think they were trying to use up all these engines before switching to the newer model. The 2zz-ge is also in the Matrix XRS and Pontiac Vibe GT.

Congrats. You've certainly replaced less than I have in getting to that mark. Looks like you can get another 200k out of that car, easily.

Well done! our '06 (LE) is over 120,000 miles...and drives just like it did when it was new. Valve cover off at 90,000 to replace a leaky gasket and it looked brand-new under the cover (posted pics when I did it a while back). It's a great car - practical size, simple, reliable, economical, durable.

Very nice. Like to see one get their money's worth out of a vehicle. I wanted to get a Corolla for my son's 1st, but ended up on a Camry (no regrets).
I'll soon be hitting 200k on my 98 Rav. My 1st Toyota. I've done only regular maintenance, few tires, batteries, windshield, but the engine, transmission and everything else is original. I have not had to replace a alternator, exhaust or nothing else. And everything still works.
No leaks & the oil level stays the same at the end of an interval.
It's been so reliable that last year I had it painted because a little of the clear started to pop on top of the cab just above the windshield line. I just couldn't let it go then. Saved me much in mileage compared to the other 2 vehicles.
Tomorrow it's going for a trip out on the road for a few days. Will give me time to think if I want to keep it to 250k or get something else. I hate vehicle shopping.

This must be extremely rare! There are very few affordable cars with that kind of engine. I had SHO and one thing you have to say is that Yamaha knows how to extract fun out an engine. How is the power band on your engine?

Nice! Get Meguair's PlastiX or the older plastic polish cleaners #10 and #17. The cluster will shine like new.

You should be running dexII or III ATF for PS fluid. You like routines, suggest you start basting/drain and filling your PS fluid via the reservoir at each oil change. I'm using Maxlife Dex/merc ATF. Its a syn and has extra seal conditioners. Been basting at oil change for 100k in the Camry. No leaks, no issues so far.

It is a pretty rare car, equivalent to what the SI is for Civic.
I see so many more Civic SI's than these XRS's. I have driven the XRS Corolla before with the high revving 1.8L. It is a great powertrain... I debated buying one several years ago.
Nice job on the 200K.. Easy as pie for that car with normal maintenance

92-95 SHOs are in my top 3 favorites!

You don't see alot of XRSs. If I had to guess I've seen about 6 others in all the time I've had mine.
Car and Driver did a short take when it came out which got me intresed in it:

Toyota should have never killed off this engine. They should have refined it and kept putting into the XRS models..if not have it as a mainstay S and have the S actually mean something instead of sporty-like appearance only. Around the world Corolla's have other hopped up turbo models and hatchback that we in North America never see...sad actually.

Good to see that the engine not only had some spirit to it but also decent longevity.

Congratulations! Now, the hard part is to stave off the rust that will eventually happen with our local municipalities using 8 trillion tons of road salt each year.

Do you commute quite a bit? I'm currently working in Green Bay and driving up from Appleton, so my 5k mile oil changes come up frequently.
