I have a 2026 RAV4 phev that specifies 0w16 API SP oil. I have a left over 5qt bottle of mobil one extended performance high mileage 0w20 that's also rated API SP. Clearly it will work in my phev but I am wondering if I should avoid using this high mileage rated oil in my new engine until it's at 75k miles, which would be a long long time from now.

High-mileage oils are fine to use in new vehicles. I have reached out to Havoline on this since their Lifelong line at Walmart is all high-mileage formulations.

It's fine. It's a question that has come up quite often over the years going back to early 2000's. Thom Smith who used to work for Valvoline back in the day said he used Valvoline MaxLife from the beginning in his car. Not needed, but won't hurt. Glad we finally got clarification on that, although that is Pennzoil's take. The issue always centered around "seal swellers" vs "conditioners" and what impact that had on elastomer materials.

I'll hold on to it then and use it for one of my 5000k changes in between my Toyota provided 10,000k changes.
