So the car is a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. Quick debrief on it - it uses the 4B11T engine from Mitsubishi. It's a 2.0L Turbocharged engine.

The owner's manual recommends: 5W30 - API classification of SM or higher, and ILSAC certified (doubt this last bit is too important - no?) year round and provides the option of 0W30 or 0W40 for the colder months.

A little history, the car currently has about 23300km (14 478 miles) - I've had it for 15 months now. For warranty sakes I get the oil changed every 3 months (about 3000km OCI) - the book requires every 3 months or 4800km which ever comes first. I'm sure I can run the oil much longer, but I much rather not have an even harder time with a very uptight dealership network for warranty claims.
Every oil change so far has been using Royal Purple 5W30 - reading some things on the forum makes me want to change this as it makes me worry.

I reside in the suburban area of Toronto, Canada.

And this is where the car is being driven. For the most part the car is driven spiritedly. For the most part it is used for short trips ranging (3~15km) in the city.
The car has seen 1 track day last weekend and I will be changing out that oil in a couple days. I plan on sampling it for a used oil analysis. I should be seeing about 4-5 track days this summer season as well. Input for this would be great too!

The car is problem-free so far, as it is pretty new. And I would like to keep it this way for as long as I own it.

Let's hear what you gurus have to say!

My EVO VIII loves RP 10w30 and has for almost 7 years now. Im running 21PSI boost to 8K redline. May go to 10w40 soon with the mileage getting up there. I also use 5K OCIs.

What about people saying how the 5W30 will shear quickly to a 5W20. Also would fuel dilution be a problem with a turbocharged engine?

Full synthetic oils don't shear as much or as rapidly as conventional oils.
And even dino shearing is not a problem to most of us.

A very good option is 0-40 Mobil 1. It is a fine oil and great for turbos.

My 10w30 shears to a light 30wt. However, every 40wt Ive used including RL, RP, M1, and VP shear to a mid level 30wt.

Dam royal purple ervery 3k? I remember I used to do that in my girlfriends z cuz I didn't know better. Her engine was clean tho. Go redline or mobil 0w40. I like redline personally

2009-present Ralliarts only require 5w30 conventional oil as per MitsubishiUSA/JDM. All the major oil company's show conventional as meeting requirement as well. As seen on their websites, so any major API SN synthetic will be more protection than what is required for such a short oci.

My experiences with nearly every other turbocharged gasoline engine show me that even if it is changed every 3000 miles, conventional oil will always leave heavy varnish in a turbo gasoline engine.

I drained the FF very early (1200 miles) in my car because of this fear.
